Hmm... right on track for 1M winner. Resting has really slowed things down, I expect, as well as using identify spell instead of staves.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- wonder is an amazing spell. I just cleared the queen ant with it, while somewhat slowed. Player Ghosts who drain mana are *really* mean. Luckily, that one won't be showing up anymore...

A different player ghosts (on this level) dropped a chest of books, so I'm now the proud owner of Phantasms and illusions.

Elemental protection is now up to all the elements, so I'm not completely resistance shy (though it's about time to wield a ring of resist fire, if I can find one. Of course, Thorongil provides acid, so armor of resist fire would also work.

I like randomly crafted shields giving conf (though I prefer it when they offer other things too). If something would be so kind as to drop armor of resistance or thranduil, I'd really be cooking.

Oh, and detect enchantment is good too. Means less poking around for the good stuff.

Hmmm... Castamir dropped Rohirrim! I'm in heaven! Of course, now my shield is basically useless, but hey, it's a small price to pay.

I'm a little under my turncount goal, but I expect I'm fine now that I have Rohirrim. Time to find some decent rings, though, I think. Magic devices are still amazing. They're killing everything. I feel like wands are definately the way to go. Rods don't dish out the damage fast enough.

Quite low HP. 274 at power 57. I guess you had low starting CON?

Do you find Sorcery better than the other realms for this setup?

Well, I'm falling behind. Of course, lack of any speed item hurts badly, but I still think there's a chance if I get some good drops. I just finished questing. I aborted due to a huge pile of chaos tiles. I really, really hate chaos tiles. I forgot to bring food down, but luckily a bunch of scrolls of statisfy hunger dropped (I only used one).

Arvedui was on teh floor, and I picked up some runegold and iron to craft. Net results, +4 str, +3 dex, +sound, +light, +dark, -blind, sust (dex+str), +disen.

I'm going to miss blind, but light and dark will cover it a lot and I have a staff of teleport. Stat gain is coming along nicely. I should probably jsut drop a ways and see if I can find more special artifacts. Barahir would be useful, but I'm looking forward to tulkas or an elven ring. They're a *long* way off, I expect.

Well, I actually started with max con (17 internal +2 race), but at that point I was without con improving gear.

I'm not sure about whether sorcery is better than necromancy. There's no genocide (a big late-game advantage), but haste self is amazing, and wonder is really good as well. Not to mention elemental resist, which helps a lot with diving.

I feel like necromancy lent itself to a more melee style play, and sorcery to a more spell-based play, but drops and play-style drift may be influencing that. Both work fine.

Oh, and Itanagst didn't drop my first wand of dragon flame, he dropped the second, thrid, and fourth. That's been really helpful.

Drain life is really nasty on things it works on... this is the first game I've found more than one at a time, though. They're proving rather effective.

Well, I missed my goal. Of course, I didn't find any source of permanent speed until dlevel 70 (that's their native depth).

I'm starting to really, really hate chaos attacks. I had been carrying a swap, but then I needed to carry poison as a swap instead (once I found speed).

On the most recent level (1 GV, 1 GV or LV), I was in the GV and was about to open the second chest, when I hit a trap-door. There were some gloves with (+8,+8), shine, and cha bonus that I should have put on to see if they had FA, but I forgot, and then I hit the trapdoor. Muar was wholly unimpressive --- I thought he was a marilith... Teleported out of the vault Azriel, Fundin, and Horamuroth of Dir. Killed Saruman (in the LV), Gyrus, and Muar.

Isildur from a bit earlier replaces rohirrim. Using recharging and tap mana makes for some fast recovery. Chaos is sitll obnoxious. No spells, and CCW/heal/*heal* doesn't help clear it, as far as I can tell. Maybe I need mushrooms (or staves/rods) or curing. Ring swap would be easier to manage, though.

Found Ingwe, it's useless. Need more sources of +int. Maybe some mithril will drop soon.

Dead. Well, I knew paralyzation by poison damage was a possibility, but I always forget that the Ringwraiths deal poison damage. Of course, I ran across no sources of poison resist (apart from rings of it). Well, that ends Fredrika's career. It was one heck of a level -- a diagonal vault and another little vault. Fundin had just died, and I ran across this bugger. I guess he was a little more than I expected.

Here's the relevant text:
Khamul, the Black Easterling invokes a storm of poison!
The Nether wraith resists a lot.
The Nightwing resists a lot.
The Nightcrawler resists a lot.
The Master lich resists a lot.
The Undead beholder resists a lot.
The Barrow wight resists a lot.
The deadly vapor overwhelms you, and you faint away!

No more turns after that. One of my better efforts, all in all. A tad faster middle game, and I'd be in business for 1M turns, I think. Sorcery is pretty good for giants. It's more oriented to spellcasting, rather than melee, for lack of bless (and you *want* wrestling).

I guess I was slowed (inertia??) by a brain smash, (which I didn't realize). No wonder I was getting thrashed so badly. I guess I was supposed to teleport (via staff) instead of quaffing !Healing. Khamul was down to around 2-3 stars even. He was hasted, and I guess he brainsmashed me around when I lost my haste? Oh well, next time, maybe I'll get some decent poison resist. Or Thorin. Thorin would have allowed me to swap out the con+4 for poison and even netted me chaos (which is annoying due to no spellage).

Well, we're rapidly approaching the point where I slow down massively. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Maybe I'll ask rgra if they have any thoughts.
