Speaking of which, this guy had a bit of a lame beginning, not finding any artifacts (unless you count the T-shirt) until character level 28.

Hendrix plays like a normal fighter, except that he has the power to optimize and customize his equipment. he hasnt sold a single magic weapon or armor yet, because he would rather drain the essence to use it later.

I found the weaponsmith to be very powerful, even to endgame. The best part is being able to add a resistance here or there to complete your kit (or immunity). Also keep an eye out for gloves of agility or genji, and give em a little powerup. I think you can eventually add +12 or +14 to whatever bonuses they have to hit/dmg. I do remember having genji gloves that were quite high in the +'s until I found spec.
Another good bonus is missles. Save up the slay evil and execute dragon and put them on arrows. The GWoP goes down quickly when you have 99 arrows of the Bard at your disposal.

here's the latest version. I just got sting out of the vault. The extra HP i get from wielding sting is definitely nice, but is it worth the loss of damage output? i think not. Runespear is killing young dragons in one attack, mature dragons in two, and ancients in 3. its also effective against undead because of the fire/elec brand.

only resist i'm missing is disenchantment.

that made me swap out celegorm, which was giving me res nether. so now i'll need to figure out a way to patch that resist before going too much farther...
