Next Character I'm tooling around with after the death of my Elven archer Bullseye. (This is the third iteration after the previous 2 weaponsmiths died stupidly while I was trying to dive too fast).

Early find of Long of Slay Or (+8,+13) meant that I decided to level up to mid 20's in the Orc Cave.

Scroll of Acquirement from Arena produced 'Mook' in the Dark Cave which was pretty handy.

Only thing I've smithed so far has been my Gauntlets of Slaying and even at chlvl 28 I've only got 3 blows which is a bit annoying.

My Cap is of Seeing and Infravision (+6) so it might be worthwhile to pump it up with something but I haven't collected enough essences to make it into anything useful.

Hit points seem pretty useful as he's got 347 with a relatively low Con (18) my guess is a life rating of around 108 but I'll confirm that as soon as I get a ? of Self Knowledge.

Still need another 150pts of damage a round and res poison before + speed etc before I'll even consider the Cloning Pits.

On an interesting sidenote this character found a Falcon Sword (+6,+7) (+1 Attack) which when I drained it it did gave me the essences for the Weapon Enchantment but not the +1 Attack (it didn't remove it either).... I've tested this on 3 other weapons with +Attacks and they all drained correctly. Anyone seen this before?

I'm determined to get this guy to lvl 50 as I can't remember the last time I did it.

Falcon swords are much the same. A great find for a weaponsmith would be a falcon sword with +4 attacks (i've seen em on some char's) -- That would be great. Also, the amount you can enchant is level dependant, so after you gain a few levels, try to re-enchant your equipment.

I confirmed the falcon sword thing with a couple of Elven Cloaks.... I drained them and I got the essences but they were both left with Stealth +1 and I couldn't drain that - obviously because +1 stealth is intrinsic for them. Also for example I tried draining a Chaos Blade and it won't let me drain the Chaos Res. Thanks for the info guys.

No dump update (I'm at work) but he's now Chlvl 31 and using Sting (though he's thinking of swapping in a Smithed Tetsubo of Slaying (3d8) |P to which I've added +1 attack this gives 232pts as opposed to Sting's 213... Will have to think about it.

Got tired of hanging around Angband 37 for Umpteen trips waiting for Res:Poison and bit the bullet to see what the Random Quest on 38' was. Garm - stuck around long enough to knock off an Ancient Blue and a Mature Blue (who dropped a RoS +7) but I recalled out without engaging Garm as I didn't have Nether covered and he would've toasted me.

ps - this is the first time I've turned Preserve Mode off - I'm really enjoying the fact that I know when there is an Arifact(s) pregenerated on the level.

LOL - Next trip to Angband once I've changed my Kit to use my smithed Tetsubo I run into the Were-Q and it drops Celegorm with Res:Disenchant which is great but it knocks me back down to 4 blows with the heavy weapon so Sting will go back in next visit to town.

I should've gone to the Dragons Lair earlier.

First dive got down to 36' and found Celegorm ( from an opponent) and Thror (lying on the ground). Celegorm has disenchant so Sting is back in the kit. Still don't think I can take Cloning Pits as I'm missing Poison & Nether. Forgot to mention that also picked up Holheneth from Angband 36 earlier and it had res:Shards so it now means the only Smithed gear being worn is my trusty gauntlets of Slaying (+5,+6) which I added +2 Dex.

450 hps and 231 damage is probably a bit low for Pits anyway.

At this rate though a couple of trips to Dragons Lair should have me ready soon. (RoS +7 and Thror help immensely)...

Rejigged gear to get stealth to Excellent (and used Mook as a swap for Res:Chaos).

Alas after knocking off the Ant Queens (with minimal Ants summoned) one of the Its got out and went summon happy. This coupled with the fact that one of the random monsters was Niddhogg + I didn't get to the healing potions in the quest doomed me. I can't believe I didn't take a some recall scrolls with me.

My run in the mid-30's continues.
