Flamed out of the Angband competition, and given my lack of game time, don't think I have enough time to better my result. So, giving mages a twirl in Fangband. A glance at the mage spell list inspires in me deepest ennui. The things that they do seem to be good at are: mesmerization spells (conf, slow, etc.), teleportation, and magic item usage. So, damage will be what wands Anarra can scrounge up, and Beguiling and Phasewalking are the abilities that she'll focus on. The trip to Amon Rudh was ... a bit more exciting that she wanted, but much duller than she feared. Damage output is a major major problem, especially after she blew up the one wand of lightning she found. Anyway, paranoia, as usual, is the mantra of the day.

I'll go through the priest spells in their entirety soon. I remember thinking that the druid and necro spells looked quite a bit better, but we'll see. If Anarra fails, I'll probably try a different class next time, though I'll eventually want to verify my pet theory on the mage spell list at some point.

One thing I'm aiming for in 0.2.0 is for at least some characters to have an easier time in wilderness, so going straight for the dungeons isn't such a no-brainer. Not that I've done much yet (apart from close the shapechange exploit hole).

This death was definitely a learning experience-- I suspect that mages should be playing pretty fast, and part of that is learning what monsters should be avoided at all costs. Got sloppy with a mystic, and he double-moved Anarra to death in one turn. C'est la vie. My earlier characters were a bit slow, so this was a good test run.
