To kill morgoth, i used the following: Ate a mushroom of armoring, quaffed a healing potion, quaffed a *healing* potion (overkill), activated helm for heal (rod was drained), Activated for haste. Meleed him trivially, ignored summons. And he had the gall not to drop the crown or the hammer.

I'm going to have to try this again for a high score.
