My first Angband L25+ character. I wonder how far can I dive with this char? I'm at DLvl 19 right now. Apart from fire hounds, which recently took out my teleportation staff, most things don't seem very difficult at this point. Is there any countermeasure vs. those firehounds? and at what DLvl should I expect to find stat potions? thanks.

Countermeasures are just not to attack them in rooms - not that that will help if you have smart packs AI on. How deep you can dive is relative to playing style, some people would be on about DLvl 35 with this character, others DLvl 15 - whatever you feel safe at really.

"In-depth" drops are calculated by (A+B)/2, where A is your current depth and B is the natural depth of the monster (in the monster memory). Therefore killing a snaga (Dlvl 6) on Dlvl 46 would give an average drop of Lvl 26 items. (46+6)/2

IIRC, stat potions are Lvl 32 items.

I got my WIS scrambled by a nexus attack :(
Otherwise doing pretty well. Recently got hold of a defender warhammer and a shield that provide lots of resistances though with many overlaps. Almost died to a basilisk a couple days back... gotta fix my poison res somehow.
I'm on DLevel 34. still barely any stat potions found.

Found a ridiculously powerful longsword named 'Ringil' lying on the floor on DLvl 34. I also just got Anduril, though I think Ringil is still better. Got my gear disenchanted a bunch of times while killing Mim. Recent uniques are extremely buff - and they seem really fond of disenchantment. Almost died to an ancient green dragon that breathed on me for 250 hp. Poison resistance still nowhere to be found. And my missile weapon isn't cutting it anymore. Need 40mp worth of orbs to kill most massed monsters now, I'm at DLevel 39. I think I'll move back to 35 or so and wait until I get some more stats and poison resistance. Anyone knows what 'Power' launchers do? and how is the bonus from Ring of slaying & ring of damage calculated ... I'm considering to swap that protection ring with one of these.

Wow, Ringil is pretty much the best weapon in the game... congrats!

I looked through the other posts here, seems like I really need to get poison/nether res, I've been pushing my luck killing ancient green dragons and such.

and btw topazg, from toplevel posts it seems like Deathwreaker is somewhat more powerful than ringil, it deals almost twice as much base damage, though it doesn't offer that crazy speed boost Ringil does.

Yeah, it does more base damage, but you are likely to get less blows per turn (Deathwreaker weighs 40lbs), and the adjustment in speed is likely to get you more blows per enemy move as well - it's down to preference.

Doomcaller, Aule, Eonwe, Zarcuthra and Calris are all potentially great weapons, but considering the number of weapons in the game, I'd say Ringil is a pretty good find ! :-)

I'm at DLvl 41, reluctantly getting dragged down the dungeon. Increased DEX a few times, now with 3 atks/round, Ringil demolishes everything in sight. Got my gear disenchanted some more, still no trace of any poison/nether res stuff. At least I found bronze DSM, which takes care of confusion. I have much better CON now, but AMHD's and such can probably still kill me easily. Not sure which DLvl to stay on, I also still need a bunch of int potions - nexus scrambling attacks are still a big risk.

On 7.5.2004 05:47 kingvictory2003@yahoo.com wrote:
DO NO,T DO NOT, DO NOT let Ringil get disenchanted! I've been so infuriated by disenchanting attacks that I've given up on certain characters solely because of damaged equipment. It would be so sad to see Ringil at any less than +22, +25. :)

Best,

Victor

So what do I do? use Anduril until I can find resistance to disenchantment?
I don't mind losing bonuses on my other gear at this point - most of the damage has been done already, and pluses are fixable up to +15, so I've read at least.

Deleted game along with character. It was taking too much free time and I realized it's immaterial whether Archon ends up killing Morgoth or dies in some stroke of bad luck.

Well, it's been fun. Thanks for all the responses.
