Speed, Mordenkainen, and Extra Shots were lucky finds. I think to save Taratol until i have more attacks with it, and use Rilia as a swap against Mim and his progeny. I am in doubt whether to use Westernesse (see home) + =oDex or Haradekket, but using an artifact is cooler.

Any advice more than welcome! :)

Bought Res of Scarab. for 30K, then found it twice in the dungeon :) It seemed to have been a drop from Beorne - how strange, he didn't pick it up.

Found my third or fourth Lesser Vault, Uvatha was there so i teleported him away. Hit a teleport trap (trying to disarm) and landed exactly next to him. Got away quick :)

Finding decent weapons, still favoring Haradekket for the attacks. Gloves of Free Action would be fantastic (free ring slot).

Thranduil and Cambeleg! Free action for ring slot (was using Dwarven armor). Happy with kit, will finish statgain soon i hope. Perhaps the One Ring will show up, you never know :)

Found one of those "party rooms" (shaped like a pit on the outside, like a vault but not so dense) with the four cells inside. Killed all monsters but one black ooze :) Blocked nearby corridors and rooms with huge barricades of doors (thx, Mordenkainen) and took out the central wall square of the party room (so cells connect). Safely nestled anything acidifiable (sp?) inside blockades of doors, now just mowing down huge columns of j's.

One of the first drops was a *dark* red spellbook - one of the good ones! Hoping desperately it wasn't Res of S. again, i picked it up.

Now I'm worried about trying out Earthquake or Bedlam for fear of ruining my careful setup :)

haven't updated for a while. Clvl 36, about dlvl 34-35. Black Oozes were disappointing, but gave me Kelek. nailed Ulfang, Uldor, Beorne, Draebor, Adunaphel, Bert, Lokkak, and - Bullroarer??!

Found Celegorm, also Hithlomir and Thorongil (i said to myself, "that spirit naga, should i go out of my way to kill?" it drops an artifact :). To get ResFear, i could swap in Rilia and Thorongil, and swap out Colluin and Haradekket. Lose attack power though - i'm getting used to having 7 attacks :)

Having pipe dreams about Feanor, Raal, Ringil, Anduril or Tenser, but actually pretty happy with my stuff. don't remember statgain being this long with my last char.

On 2.1.2004 01:45 andrew@msri.org wrote:
i'm only worried about getting cocky 'cause things are too easy - nothing can stand against me in melee (7 attacks, 4d5+55 damage ea.), if i care to i can shoot 3-5 branded arrows before normal speed monsters even react, and *tons* of Healing.

Calris means i lose see invisible. Telepethy lets me see ghosts and clear hounds and most things, but Q's are a problem. Detection lets me see them beforehand and swap to Haradekket

Liking Calris. Also found Anguirel, which i may swap in if i find Thorin (WHEN i find Thorin), and Arvedui, which i've been hunting after for ages (somehow i thought it resisted nether...)

I need ResConf, ResFear, and ResNether. It's pretty crazy already to be at dungeon level 40 not having the first two of those, IMHO. But that's me. Disenchant, Shards, and Nexus covered.

Playing with the visuals has been fun :) now i'm running around in a purple balrog suit, and all the filthy street urchins are Great Hell Wyrms :)

Yes i know Thengel resists confusion, but Telepathy is too important. The minute i get ResPois from somewhere else, i'll swap in Thorongil for ResFear.

Beat the vault thoroughly - (it wasn't GCV, slightly different pattern) - killed Ariel, Bill, and Itangast, and teleported With-King, Dwar, Lernaean Hydra, and two bone golems.

Treasure :) = Raal, Tenser, Caspanion, Fingolfin, and Evenstar, (all of which i'll use) two Gold DSM's (both +22, so they stacked), Thalkettoth, Rohirrim, Aglarang, Maedhros, and a GAZILLION "excellents" which couldn't fit.

oh, and Beruthiel :)

Here's my cleaned up chardump - new stuff, all ready for action!!
Tenser is *SO* cool...
hmmmm... what's better? Rohirrim, Colluin, RoSI, or Caspanion, Thorongil, RoDam? The former grants ResSound, the latter better damage and better Int.

On 7.1.2004 15:43 loefftj@yahoo.com wrote:
Personally I wouldn't wear the =oDamage at all. I would swap for a ring of intelligence or constitution. Looking at your kit I would stick with Rohirrim until you find a source of resSound. *ID* every elven item or cloak of Aman or hope for Thorin. Once you find Thorin then definitely swap to Caspanion.

i'm so happy! My first ever greater vault (i've seen about 5, first completely plundered one)...
Now i'm working on a zoo, full of nice Q's, there's loot everywhere :)

As for *ID*, i have plenty of scrolls. I always *ID* things with hidden powers unless they are Defender, HA, of Blessed.

Killed Gorlim, Medusa, and a Great Wyrm of Perplexity (my first Great Wyrm!!). Gorlim was ugly, i didn't set the fight up as well as i should have, so i ended up using 2 or 3 !oHealing. Medusa looked like she would never melee me - i couldn't leave my little "haven", or i'd be surrounded with hydras, and Medusa didn't move because she was busy summoning. Yuck. Blinked away to a better position, several plasma and fire breaths later. I found the Great Wyrm of Perplexity in a Lesser Vault; i started charging an Ancient Bronze Dragon, and when he just wouldn't die, i paid attention, saw my HP down by 300, and noticed what the D actually was. I backtracked and tried again, to no avail. He dealt too much damage. So i got him lined up in a long corridor and made him into a little pincushion with arrows of Flame (+9,+9). Thanks, Tenser!! :)

Just to say what i'm up to - killed Uvatha, Smaug, Waldern, and Rogrog. Hanging out at depth 2200 - level 44. Diving fast, hoping nether, nexus, chaos, and shards resists will appear at some point. (Translation - I NEED THORIN...)

Well, i found a Shield of Elvenkind with ResSound. Swapped out Calris, Celegorm, Rohirrim, and RoSI for Anguirel, Elvenkind, Caspanion, and RoInt +5, bringing down VASTLY the fail rate of Meteor Swarm bwahahahaha!!!!

killed Akhorahil and Quaker, and got out of a tight spot with two Great Crystal Drakes.

Powerdiving paying off. Clvl 41, Dlvl 47 :) Found Amrod, Dal-i-thalion, and Isildur in one dive!!!

Swapping like mad, lacking only fear and shards resists. Shards is too bad, fear isn't so bad since my arrows are getting deadly. I can't believe Scatha actually gave me good stuff, but my new boots, and sevral seeker and Mithril arrows came from him!

Why not use the shield of elvenkind for resSound and use Arvedui instead of Isildur. You would pick up nexus and shards resist plus a couple of strength points. This is by far my luckiest character as far as artifacts are concerned. Do you know if it is easier to find regular artifacts than randarts? my char with randarts never found nearly so many (though he had some gloves which were even better than Fingolfin, IMHO)

Had a nasty brush with death. I suppose i wasn't about to die, but i think i would have if i'd stayed there much longer. An undead beholder started to creep along a corridor, so i set myself up nicely, cast Create Doors, Haste Self, Shield, used colluin's Resistance, and waited till he came. i started shooting him with Arrows of Flame, but he didn't seem to care. He didn't want to melee me either!! and i couldn't leave my nook, or the summoning might get very ugly indeed. He summoned a Black Wraith, whom i killed, then a Master Lich. I started to fight the Master Lich, and i'm not sure how this happened, but i accidentally moved away from my tiny anti-summon stronghold, and sure enough, the summoning got ugly. One eye druj later i teleported away. :P

Oh, and Vargo was a piece of cake.

got Thorin, killed two druj's, Harowen, and The Balrog of Moria without using a single healing potion!! Course, none of the powerful monsters dropped anything worthwhile (thorin was off a Black Ogre), but i'm so happy!

Good sword, good bow, good gloves, good boots, etc., and all resistances but feather falling and lite :)
