Hot off the heels of the last win (not really, I just didn't post that klackon win until a week after it was over), a demigod duelist.

Duelist: Hard to learn, easy to master. A disclaimer beforehand that the fork I play (pseudoelliposchengband) significantly changes the duelist challenging system so that you autochallenge on attacks, meaning you don't have to worry about approaching an awake enemy or handling mountains of extra keystrokes challenging individual enemies. Unfortunately the base PCB dueling system changes at level 35 so that the player is prompted to choose a new duel target on kills, thus saving a turn (?). However, the pseudo changes make this function redundant and annoying, even unplayable depending on your level of patience. It's also an easy fix in the code to eliminate the prompt, but being the layman windoze loozer I am, I have not the slightest inclination to spend more time fruitlessly attempting to compile. So! Moving on.

Duelist is brutal before the AC starts coming in - no venturing through the mountains for ancient dragon kills, steer clear of big packs, poke at things in hope of killing them before they deplete your very limited HP pool. The various rush abilities are a nice convenience but have limited use until the later stages of the game when you start encountering the usual spellcasters. That also is when duelist gets cuh-razy.

Level 40 brings a *seriously wounding* strike kind of passive ability that goes undisplayed on the stat sheet but can hit in the high three figures or four figures on a good roll. We're talking sometimes 2-shotting 3,000 hp enemies and generally 4-7-shotting almost everything else while they're stunned and you have a bonus 100 AC. This is the only melee character I've played thus far where I thought, "yeah, I could pretty much kill anything in melee no matter what." Between the giant damage, consistent stunning, the hamstringing, the rushing, and the bonus defenses, this is one fine endgame class. It can be troublesome managing equipment early on, though, because of equipment weight restrictions and lighter weapons getting bonii to damage (and no shields allowed). Resistances weren't easy to come by because of all this, although thankfully dor-lomin dropped very early (incidentally I also must've found like 10 telepathy amulets).

The most danger I found myself in throughout this run was getting double-double-rocketed by Echizen through my own foolish error - sent my heartrate right up! Nodens also went summon-mad, bringing in the (friendly, due to demigod perk) unicorn, Echizen, and Master Tonberry, all of whom I took out on the same level. The Serpent also summoned a bit too much for my taste, but after killing the unicorn there wasn't much chance of J finishing me off unless something horrific happened. Also cleared Olympus to see whether I could fill some equipment gaps; the rush skills are a godsend there, though the Olympians, alas, resist stunning.

So: After many travails, What does this put my winrate at? According to my local hall of fame, Officially 7/280, or a respectable 2.5%! However, roughly half those never even reached level 5 (pathetic!). And if you count only those who reached roughly level 25, you get 7/65, or an almost 11% winrate. Now we're talking. And if you go even further and take only the wins beyond level 35, you get an even better outlook: 32% winrate! Clearly you can't make an omelette without breaking a few hundred eggs.

oh, definitely, I'm just not sure exactly what it is. The formula for wounding strikes is in the (spoiler alert) cmd1 file, based on dexterity, and that's what seemed to bring most of my damage.
