I've been resting for MP a ton so turncount is probably not great. Also I've had HP below MP for most of the game, which isn't great either...

This turncount is very beatable - I might even try to beat it myself. Most of the turns were wasted resting for MP in early-to-mid game, so doing more melee/archery then might help a lot. Sangband has a steep learning curve for me at least, I struggled to mid-levels several times but by then turn count was too high, though I'm normally fairly quick. Through several re-starts I never found the right playstyle/skills to dive reasonably safely and quickly. Damage, speed, stats, and resists all felt behind-level, and the magic system takes a lot of getting used to, much less mana but spell costs didn't skyrocket, either, never found out if at high levels magic might be an effective strategy.

Well, that and my stubborn streak made me keep attempting an eventual Sorcery build after seeing your Necromancer win, so I never found out if that started to come on in mid-levels and was perhaps a bit quicker getting there.

I'll probably come back to the characters I have going when I have time to try and figure out what's going on in Sangband. Though I'm a bit frustrated with it right now, it feels quite different from any other *band I've tried, like a new puzzle to solve.
