Took forever to get first attack rod, even more so than usual. Scrolls of recharging are the key, visits home when they're out of stock are misery. (The opening ran on wands of spark... having to open with suicide when they lack in the store is a PITA BTW!) While I'm a little too proud and a lot too impatient to go full stairtard, I really do spend most of the pre-Lightning era in each game hanging very close to the stairs. They're my little stationary Scrolls of Teleport Level, bless their hearts.

This about my third character to get this far (and about my zillionth attempt in total), but I know more now than I did then.

The last time I used burglary for anything other than just raising the skill was around level 50.

But I think the light weapon bonus helped me. I did a lot of no-skill fighting, especially at the end.

Sauron was a pushover as usual.

For this build, I finally consistently remembered, teleport away first, THEN destruct.
