Making some careful progress this time, though Fang had me down to 1hp and I had to quaff my !CSW and back down to 1hp when I finally skewered him with an arrow...

The spell Barkskin can be a great help to a lower level character. It increases AC by 50 and absorbs a lot of combat damage.
