I think I am actually not going to be able to play any variant with statswap anymore. At this point I would rather delete it from my game and never upload to the ladder again. It is the most obnoxious thing, it was cute maybe the first 5 times it happened but this is getting ridiculous now. The worst part here is that I was purposely avoiding this quest and it was just inattention that caused me to go down the wrong >
This is survivable because I was already ludicrously overpowered, so I may struggle through, but I'm pretty sure this is the last time I'm playing with statswap on.

See if you can get Grendel's body. If you do, you won't be disappointed because Grendel is OP to compensate for the statswap. AND Grendel has retaliation when attacked. Absolutely no need to give up on this possessor!
On 3.8.2014 17:24 HugoTheGreat2011 wrote: And don't forget that you're playing a Lazy character. Serious props getting thid far. For comparison: check out my Lazy Possesdor named, "Go For It!"

It's just that Azog is buff and I have a few str bonuses from elsewhere bumping me to 18/30. I was just lucky that my dex got one of the big numbers still.
Anyways, I will press on, albeit with a bad taste in my mouth. Whether I can find Grendel or not, I have a water troll corpse in my freezer waiting to be picked up at CL28.

On 3.8.2014 21:50 debo wrote: OK sorry hugo but I had to ditch Grendel, the no devices thing is really awful. Man he hits hard though, the retaliation aura is great.
With the Minotaur I get about the same damage as Grendel if you add on my headbutt... I can't figure out why my to-hit is so awful, do I reset my weapon skills each time I switch bodies? I should check. I also used to have +10 speed with Azog and I'm pretty sure I had it with Grendel, but now I only have +8 regardless and I can't figure out why. Oh well.
Losing the boots slot was annoying but I have lev + rDis in a swap-pair of dragon wings, so we'll go with that for a while. I might go after Shelob for another stat boost, but before that I will farm ancient dragons near lonely mountain until my eyes bleed.

No corpse from Arthur, unfortunately. I'm going to go swat Shelob, and then I'll probably scum the lonely mountain for a while.

At that point, I can switch to this Olog corpse I just found (not great), or I could switch to the Minotaur until I find something better. If I do the latter, I could enchant up that Ninjato of Kamul the Escapee (minotaurs are OK with those apparently) and be around the same place I am now in terms of damage, but I would lose a boot slot.
The White Knight is also pretty good, but he would give me only one more clvl to work with.
Other uniques in the mid-30s that seem like they might be good are Ulfang the Black and Lord Borel, I guess I could go to Castle and farm for them.
Aside from roughly being a berserker in terms of device use, this guy is feeling pretty powerful, and this is even with that stupid stat-swap (which I've kinda recovered from at this point). I don't recall ever feeling so powerful at this stage in the game before, I'm basically diving straight to dungeon guardians and squashing them.
Currently farming DL39 of the Lonely Mountain. :)

However, the failrates on the spells are 30%-50%, and easy-spell doesn't seem to help. My hand-to-hand damage is also underwhelming, although I guess hitting to stun is alright. I think I'd rather just go with the minotaur and the Ninjato at this point, if I have to. His device usage is pretty good.

Anyhow, I tried to switch to assuming it wouldn't work, since I was more than 5 levels behind. To my astonishment, it worked. I'm slightly weaker but also slightly faster, which is good by me..
Turns out that I misread the equation for "possessor power level" as CL + floor(CL^2/2500) (which would basically upgrade you from power level 49 to power level 100 at CL50). It turns out it's actually a cubic function, so you do get access to pretty high-level dudes as you go. I cap out at ML45 right now!
Almost died to something gatling-breathing disintegration in antimelee caves... I thought it was judge mortis, who I was trying to chase down, but I don't think so b/c he doesn't do that -- maybe a death vortex showed up, it's the only likely culprit I can see from r_info.
On 4.8.2014 22:21 Thraalbeast wrote: Sounds like a death vortex, they can be horrible and normal walls does not protect you. But they are very low on hp and thus easy to kill with missile/spell as long as you have decent speed and see/detect them.

Take out the Jurts (near quest entrance) first. Go to the southeast section and vanquish all of the Queen Ants right away. Otherwise, the quest will get *very* annoying with the ant summons. With the Jurts and Queen Ants out of the way, I would single out and take down the Gachapins, one-by-one. Once you exterminate the Jurts, Queen Ants, and Gachapin, the rest of the quest shouldn't be as bad.

However, a chest dropped a figurine of an elder storm giant, which I brought to town with me and bouldered to death. He left a corpse behind, and now he's me! Or I'm him. Whatever, this is awesome. Oh, and I found a ring of speed upgrade in the black market immediately after. Woohoo!

That's your problem right there. He's got you so distracted with other stuff that you can't hurt him. Remember, these guys are regenerating super fast (something like 30hp for every move you take) so if you teleport away and waste lots of turns dealing with summons, he'll just regen too much.
Morgy should generally be avoided. But you are lazy, so you need to fight him. Realize that there is not much difference between Morgy, The Unicorn and The Serpent of Chaos, so treat these battles as if they were end game battles. That is, bring all your freakin' resources and use them. No quarter! You might need 20 !*Healing* (I see you used 0) and 10 or so ?Destruction. Staves are out ... leave them at home. Potions, rods and scrolls only! Also, bring at least 5 each of ?Genocide and ?MassGenocide. As you noticed, summon uniques is annoying so try to kill the strong ones first (especially Gothmog and Sauron as well as the other big Demons like Nyarlathotep and Azathoth). Also, deal with the radius 2 disintigration aura with scrolls of forest creation (i.e., wait until he breaks into LoS 2 squares away and then read one. He should move next to you then and you'll get the first blow. Never fight in the open unless you have powerful distance attacks, but I'm guessing you were trying melee (I hope so, your distance attacks are only half as strong as you might need to challenge him).
As a lazy player, the hardest thing is getting that first lazy artifact. Morgoth is the easiest to take on first so he is the best choice. But you really need to sell out to take him on. If he drops the stick, you'll find the rest of the game *much* easier! Remember, if you can take out Morgoth, you can win the game. (Oberon, on the other hand, is *much* easier and, frankly, The Ring is usually *much* harder unless you employ vault spam).
Sorry for the late comments.
