The world's only 5 stat class, so I had to call in the mighty Zeus for some beneficial parentage. He was up for the job, of course.

Astral Guide now grants powers of teleportation, which is why I picked it. I'll probably do Fleet of Foot at L40 since I haven't tried that one yet either, but both Untouchable and Evasion would be more prudent choices. Heh, its not like I'll be hitting L40 anytime soon anyway.

Would you crack a Pattern Vault on L25? I have no way to know what might be inside monster-wise, but the level is special. 44 !CCW is probably enough for me to walk the pattern, and I have 11 charges of teleport other left.

What should I do? No whips in sight ...

Never mind, nothing tougher than an Ice Elemental was inside. I scored a Magi crown and Holhenneth, which has a nice activation for me.

Granite Walls to L31, !Experience to L32, Barrow Downs to L33.

I'm really enjoying this class at the moment, though losing my whip diminishes the fun somewhat. And Magic Blueprint is now my mostest favorite spell ever :)

OK, I think I accidentally hit on one of the most fun combos ever, at least for my playstyle. Stealth is a bit lacking, but lets ignore that as we have recall scumming available at L30! So, recall down to stat potion depth and cast Magic Blueprint. This maps the entire level and reveals all objects. Go into map mode and locate the stat potions or anything else you might like. Use Astral Guide to teleport around to get closer to stuff you want. Wait a bit to see if the level is special before recalling back to town. And, let's not forget, Zeus parentage really helps maximize the oomph from those stat potions!

I just need a New Life, but I'm sure one will turn up eventually.

So many vaults! At first, being unable to detect monsters was going to *kill* me, especially when I stumbled into Nidhogg on L32. He was trailing Judge Fear, so I teleported both away. That vault was infested with Phase Spiders, but contained Dr. Jones, the Stone of Lore, the Phial of Galadriel, and Isildur. Nice.

Next vault contained the dynamic duo of Gwaihir and Meneldor, and the confusion effects of Werewindle kicked in for the first time ever against one of the pair (I forget which). Both vampirism and confusion are much more rare these days on chaos brands.

Then, a little 'd' pit of the good variety (bronze, gold, law, balance, pseudo). I cleared it, and scored Genji.

Finally, a fair sized vault with Sam and Boromir inside. I'm not sure who designed these vaults, but is it really necessary to place a monster on every single square? It took over thirty minutes to clear ... Well, I killed a lesser titan, Bokrug and the Queen Ant, but chickened out of Scylla and an Iron Lich. I'm pretty sure Rogrog got squished in the shuffle some place as well.

My lonely rod of detection is getting quite the workout!

You know, I would love to help. But unfortunately, I don't have access to a mac, nor do I know anything about it. If anybody knows how to develop for OS X and wants to undertake the effort, I'd be happy to
[1] Provide a list of .c files that need to be compiled.
[2] Maintain the build process as part of ongoing Chengband development.

I took a perusal at makefile.osx that I inherited from Hengband, but it references a non-existant makefile.inc. Also, I have no idea if main-mac.c is functional or not.

Chengband currently builds on linux. Is there anyway to do a linux type build on the Mac?

OK, that's a record. 8 !Healing for the quest, and still, I barely pulled it off. For the Titans, I used Ancient Protection and Protection from Evil, but still had to heal once. For the Iron Lich, 2 !Healing as it caught me with a Brain Smash and then Breathed Fire the very turn my double resistance wore off. For the Raal's 3 !Healing ... very hairy as I could not kill them fast enough and was taking mana bolts et. al. For the Quachil random spawn, 3 !Healing as it just spanked me with time breaths as well as summoning a pack of dread.

But damn, I wanted that rand-art whip having already found Dr. Jones. And it was a nice one:

The Whip 'Lawslayer' (1d6) (+7,+8) (+2 attacks) {At|Ca}

So, I'm back to dual wielding. Actually, I wonder if dual wielding with Werewindle for the quest might have given better results as whips just are not very deadly. Still, whip techniques, especially extended crack, are very nice.

I picked up Quickthorn and Ulmo as well, but I think I need to stay with the whips.

Whips are OK, but I decided I really want Nain. So, double immunity from weapons and I go in strong with devices. Basically, "One and Done" tactics though I always light up the level to look for rockets, disintegrate, etc. Finally, a bit of luck with Brands crossbow, and I knew what it was thanks to my "Great Discovery" ability. I had to dance a bit with Dworkin to get to it, though, but nothing too difficult.

So, how long until Nain shows up? I'm willing to wait :D

Faster than a speeding bullet, though I really wish I got to try out Fleet of Foot before I fixed the bug. Its really nice for chasing down enemies that think they can run away from you!

And yes, that is my third rarity 64 rod of speed found this game. I'd personally prefer they were healing, but what can you do?

After numerous big vaults, I decided it was time to lean on *destruction* ... heavily! This paid off when a GCV spawned with monsters like ... I'm sure you can guess. Monsters 100x more powerful then I am, to be sure. Fortunately, one of them was Atlas, and he is a very good ally in such a situation. He won't quake Nodens or Azathoth, and he won't attack The Tarrasque, but otherwise, he is very nice at clearing out other nasties, including Great Wyrms of Power.

I had to kill Y'golonac, and was surprised I could, but his detection range is too short to lead out of the vault. I also had to kill Dworkin, who refused to blink. So, a Cyberdemon as part of the curse, but that is easily expected, and I knew better than to swap out my shards resist (dragon gloves) for Fingolfin prior to that fight.

Maybe 15 artifacts in all, but nothing game changing. I'm still struggling with stats, hitpoints, and resistances while trying to keep enough offensive firepower to actually kill stuff. Great Wyrms of Law, Balance and Chaos are extremely risky at the moment, so I am just not powerful enough ... yet.

Bahamut dropped me a precious!! Oh my! And I thought Nain was good, but this hefty mattock spanks that weapon!

So, super vault. 30+ uniques inside, including Shub-Niggurath who was first fighting Azriel. I couldn't get in to finish the pair off since Klingsor was hung up on deep water, guarding the vault entrance from a safe distance, and spamming summoning Black Reavers et. al. Eventually, Azriel popped out of the vault, but monsters with healing won't stay at 1 star for long. He was back up to 4 stars, and I am playing with *no* healing, but I gave it a go anyway and pulled it off. Barely.

In the meantime, Shub-Niggurath entered another part of the vault and started fighting with Bahamut. Both were down to 0 hp and I thought it was about time to give up on ever gaining vault entry and start my destruction marathon. Klingsor needed to go, and while the level was special, there were no unidentified rings and there was a fishingpole. So why not?

Then, its time to take down both Bahamut and Shub-Niggurath. Should be a cakewalk! Bahamut, sure. But Shub had healed back to full health!! And its not like I could kill that guy. It summoned some Amberites for me to play with too. Plus, Bahamut was wanted, and had just dropped a 3d9 mattock that I could not get to. Well, eventually I managed to lure Shub out of the vault, but it was not easy. Sauron gained destruction immunity plus he commands to return, I think. He never tried it, so maybe not? Anyway, I finally defeated the monster AI and lured out Shub, destructed, and only Fiona remained inside, the other baddies having stupidly walked out of the vault into my destruction storm.

I fought Fiona until she blinked, quickly dispatched her summoned shadow demon army, and gathered the loot. The take?

The Mattock 'Flame Tongue' (3d9) (+29,+29) (+2) {|F/*L}

Sweet :D

BTW, I fixed up the extra blows for this class. 4 attacks base, but they gain extra blows at L20 and L40 for 6 max (with whips and diggers). Also, Double Crack stays Double Crack all game ...

I also just gained Pharaoh's Curse, but at 49% fail, that will get no use at all, I'm afraid. I still struggle casting recharging and ancient protection!

Which is your favorite ring of power? Me, I'm very partial to Vilya, but I don't think its immunity is the best.

Some big boys are down, but others, I can't make any progress on. This include Wahha-Man. Even though I have glyphs of warding, he breaks them pretty quickly and melees for up to 500 or so per round. So, I don't want to plunk down 5+ restore mana or 30+ healing just yet. At L50, my Ancient Protection gets multiple glyphs, so I'll just wait until then.

Shuffle for NO MORE AGGRAVATE! Stealth sucks, but that's a demigod intrinsic and not much I can do about it. I wouldn't mind Jack's cloak, but then I need some alternate source of disenchantment resistance. Still no nexus ...

The power of the Archaeologist! Woo hoo!

My first go at Oberon failed. I tried to pepper him with rockets and then melee for the finish, but he ate 11 rockets and was still at 9 stars! Why? Well, he summons! I just couldn't dispatch his army of evil quick enough, and he regenerated back about 4k hp. Eventually, 8 Nazgul were on the level, the Witch King, a bunch of Cyberdemons and many more. And the level was small! So, I gave up. Try again on a 1x1 level? Sure, but this time with melee. He won't summon when he is attacking! A quick kill.

Then, the Serpent! No thought of rockets this time, just straight melee with some effort at glyphs of warding, but really, they don't work too well. I had some close calls, including a full hp down to 100 or so thanks to nasty earthquake criticals. But I had plenty of resources, so kept on chugging!

Speaking of chugging, I do indeed chug potions when toe to toe with the Serpent, so perhaps that would be a good ability to pick? Perhaps Potion Chugger and Sacred Vitality?

Til Next Time!
