I'm purposely proceeding somewhat slowly with this character, doing much more partial level clearing than usual. The artifact cloak, picked from the floor, is pretty crappy but better than nothing. I decided to take on Ungoliant (in a lesser vault). I took on the sleeping great wyrm of physics on my way through the door. We traversed a small section of the level, but eventually ended up back in the room where we started.

Once he reached 3 *'s he started healing constantly. I suppose that that's the smart_ai again. I was running low on CCW and didn't know if I would be able to beat him as ridding him of the last of his life was taking twice as long as the rest of the battle. Eventually he fled, and came back, but on about his fifth flee attempt I was able to hit with a few consecutive (retrieved) bolts of frost and he died, dropping nothing useful. Feeling FINE.

It's turns out that being constantly gorged (from using small healing), having virtually no speed, and the possibility of running out of phase door were my biggest concerns. I didn't even carry teleport, though I did find a staff that I used briefly. Never found any additional healing or any temp speed.

Morgoth chased me all over the map, summoning quite a bit. I did have to destruct a few times to rid the level of his summons, but I saw no way around it. The battle itself lasted about 1 1/2 hours and at my low point I think I may have been down to 300 or so HP.

There were only 4 artifacts in my end game kit (I wore the BoS) for a majority of the battle. I didn't even mean to bring those (BoS) with me, I meant to leave them at home.

Grond and The Massive Iron Crown and both improvements to my kit which begs the question, Do I go deeper? The levels leading up to this point were pretty much a cake walk.

I though for a moment it was going to be another cake walk. Lando feard not death and would not flinch, but face it. After the second round of toe to toe combat he was half dead. Problem is Lando was fully dead. Call me cocky but knowing what I know now, I think given a second chance I could kill him. Maybe if I would have been hasted. I really approached him and entered into battle poorly buffed. Oh well, it made me laugh.
