It took what seemed like forever to find ESP, but a nice early Rapier(?) of Doriath carried Brutus through and he found an artifact sword with ESP at clevel 30. Even having that as a swap was immensely valuable.

Decided to go further without rPois and finally found an "oTrickery around dlvl 50 while clearing a dragon pit. Found a few other goodies along the way, namely Totila, Long Bow of Bregor and Colannon. That made it possible to descend further and to take care of Glaurung and Ungoliant in short order. Unfortunately I don't actually have any use for her cloak, but hopefully some good headgear will come along so I can swap out Mablung for something better.

Since I've been able to finally cover almost all resists; notable exception being Shards decided to go all the way to Dlvl 86. (Skipped all the way from Ungoliant to Dlvl 86 to avoid the awful, awful Tol-In-Gaurhoth spawns.)

On the very next trip down, I found Soulkeeper, Fingolfin and the War Hammer of Aule from a Winged Bile Dragon pit. Since most of my resistances are covered only by a single piece of equipment it's going to require a little rejig to use Aule, but given the slays and bigger damage in general I'm going to have to try. :)

Approach from the other side a meet Tselakus: He drops Belegennon, Hitlomir, Ecthelion, Careth Asdriag and a randart Dart. That's a crazy drop. Next is Wiruin and I am brought to 150HP before I can react. That means ?oTeleLevel.

It may be too dangerous to hang around these levels with only patchetic speed (+5ish). I'm just not sure where else to find speed rings.

If I play this again, I think it'll be with the full wilderness -- it's just so much easier to get equipment if you start the Angband dungeon at 50-odd instead of 86.

It'll also have to be some kind of character with decent detection. It's too frustrating lugging around oodles of failure-prone rods/wands/etc.

I also think I might go back to 1.0.x to hopefully be able to get decent speed rings. Don't get me wrong, the new jewelry is a LOT more interesting and varied than the old, but if I'm ever going to win FA, I must be practical :).
