Thank you Chardros! So I was feeling quite lucky (did I mention the 4d6 Two Handed Sword Pattern Weapon in the Mimic's Treausre? No?) and decided not to sell my 2 ?oAcquirement, but to use them. Now Sexy made this risky ... I stair climbed the Dark Cave (risking vaults and missed artifacts) 4 or 5 times until my 2 squares of visibility was clear. Read one. Read another. Then a greater balrog pops into view. Yikes! I picked up the loot and scurried up the stairs (at +13 speed). The take was Isildur!!

So now my CON is 18/*** at CL24! Wow!

(Oh, 3rd book as well, but that hardly seems worth mentioning ;-)

With a (5 * 1.22 * 5d6) dragon slayer, can I really resist hanging out in the Dragon's Lair? I just offed a Great Venom Wyrm in 5 rounds, which is quite a change of pace from my magic eater taking 30 attack rounds (not counting healing!) to do the same. But strangely, I think the magic eater is a bit more powerful, probably owing to my current refusal to use any healing just yet, while the magic eater has ready access to 10 0% fail 300hp healings and 5 0% fail 500hp healings. Say, this character wouldn't mind finding 5 rods of healing ;-)

So after the early 2 hour adrenaline rush of Chardros' benevolence, things settled down. I used the 4d6 pattern sword until Hagen dropped his spear, and then I used that until I decided it was time for the Cloning Pits, and that Zantetsuken would make that oh so much easier. It was an easy quest, despite a Greater Balrog hanging out in my normal starting area by the Bokrugs. Only gained Thalkettoth, but I really was after the boots.

Then, it was time for the Old Castle. I generally don't do these quests back to back, as the Castle is considerably more difficult, but I had found a Ring of Speed +7 on DL42 of the Dragon's Lair, so I was cruising at +13 base speed. While I was very scared that the quest would be too difficult with my sexy aggravation, it actually proved quite easy. I teleported twice before landing next to the Dracolich, and I quickly dashed for the Wall Monsters, which need to die first lest they take over the entire quest level. This cost a !oHealing, but then I settled down and methodically cleared the level. I was very surprised how easy a time I had, and finally I laid my hands on the coveted sword Zarcuthra! Very nice ...

I was turned into a moron in the Cloning Pits, and that cost me my resilience (+4 Con) mutation to remove it. I did play as a moron up to CL37, but then I decided that I probably needed to cast some of my spells (like Word of Destruction) and the 12% spell rate penalty was just too much. Steelskin went to a !oPolymorph. So that leaves my extra legs, which I plan on hanging on to ;-)

Oooh ... I was clearly good this year, as Santa Claus dropped me a pretty. But I did think for quite a while on whether I ought to use Spec, given that this removes my spellcasting altogether. Since there is always a ?oMundanity, I figured it was worth it.

Hung out to kill Tiamat. I really need a second weapon to maximize the benefits of Spec (I'd use Stormbringer if I could find it, but something like Songmaster is preferred ...) I went with Anabasis for the *Fire against Tiamat, who obliged with Corona, which also has *Fire.

Anyway, I'm sure to find something else nice to wield eventually ...
