Final icky note on the failed quest and quick escape. Apparently Hammerhand, Hithlomir, and Thalkettoth were on the ground in the castle quest. Woe is me.

I had never polied like crazy and got a zillion mutations, so I decided to screw with it. I could cover blindness with thrand, but I'm going with the cap for now, for the dex and no-teleport. Which I'm enjoying, even though some people won't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

I'm a bit worried on my lack of blindness coverage in truth. What I REALLY need to find is a staff of *destruction*, so if I'm blinded I can use that and save myself. Casting is rather problematic if I'm blinded, one of the two resistances I'm missing on this equipment config. I've played way too much, and I need to sleep now.

So eventually I wanted to get ESP as a mutation hopefully, to be able to do a particular set of EQ and still not "be blind" by having ESP on a mutation. I got spectre after a bit, and my stats were crazy hosed. So I did that, and found out what fun spectre can be.

Fast forward. Eventually I was finding some good eq, and getting my stats back up, was doing mostly dragon's lair. I decide to try out the level 70 undead quest off outpost when I hit level 50 (with spectre). Spectre seemed like a fine race to be since they're immune to nether I believe.

Once before I died during that quest with a very promising mindcrafter (on hengband). So I went in loaded for bear. I _seriously_ took in 35 heals and 11 *heals* and lots of misc eq beyond that, 50+ crits, 20 restore life, you get the idea.

So the way I had died before, was I decided to teleport when a few things had summoned. I teleported into the skull druj/eye druj room, thought oh shit, and teleported again, going into the OTHER room just like it. So I had thought this was just bad luck at the time.

So on this character, I ended up doing something vaguely similar, though I had been utterly mopping up up until that point. But an archlich summoned a ton of stuff, including a black reaver, which I had never fought yet.

So I of course get teleported into the skul druj room. Teleport again, loe and behold the other skul druj room. I resign myself by the like 4th teleport to going back and forth between the two rooms. I had base speed of 27, a sick amount of heals, and around 935 hp. So I started trying to kill the druj's, which was rough because of the constant summon, but I cleared 1 room of 2 of them, then down to 1, and finally had 1 side cleared, and then used that room as my starting base of operations, cleared the other, and kept branching out.

The thing was, the summoning by both archliches and black reavers is just INSANE. I'm going with the default stuff, with learning from mistakes and exploiting weaknesses. Normally I can handle it, but geez, the two lich typees were just crazy. And Black reavers mana storm and hit pretty hard.

This is going on way too long. Let me sum.

I went through all my restore life potions, somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3rds through my healing, and I still didn't manage to kill more than 1 archliche, and about 5 black reavers, of course I also killed about 300-400 things they summoned along the way, including a solid amount of uniques, mostly L and V of course. Oh and saw my first Great Wyrm of Space-Time, but he teleported away when low and no way I could follow him at that point. Dammit my summary derailed.

So eventually I get Spec. I was finding lots of artifacts and good stuff along the way, because I was killing so much stuff. So I knew spec was cursed, but I didn't know it was (it sure seems to be anyway) PERM cursed, no matter what you do.

So now I have a level 50 chaos warrior, who was spectre with maxed int and tons of mana (and mastery on all spells that matter), who has a perm anti-magic shell as far as I can tell, and will never cast again.

Pretty amusing on one hand. I did manage to poly to something else, Cyclops, and I got some more good mutations along the way. In fact the mutations are ridiculously good with no negatives -- except I have the mutated but recovering mutation, so I could lose a lot of them.


Ok, more than enough talking for now. Glance at the char. I'm just considering using this force weapon since I had all the mana going to waste. It seems to do good damage. I got doomcaller in the quest also.

I found Maelstrom, Ringil, and a ring of Extra Attacks +2 and Wizardy. They really should make "and wizardy" not able to be put on + to attack rings. Then after I finally found him (was searching stupid mountains since T are supposed to be there, and was at the right depth), I go to R'lyeh, was at depth 82 from earlier (used a level teleport scroll to escape nastiness), and I find 3 mobs on my list and kill them all. The reason I half-went there was to see if Charybdis would be there, since it was water, even though the depth was all wrong. She was. I also got The Norsa (Kinda a bitch, forgot to do resistance potion once, and it got hairy), who summoned Eric, who was also on the list, he was easy.

I probably will do Randart Dragon boots to replace my screwed over Shiva boots. Anybody have other suggestions for things I need? My boots got disenchanted 3 times while I was practicing up to master on all the top chaos spells, none of which I can cast now because of spec. :)

Ringil won by a nose over going with the chainsword. The only reason it did was because I switched in the ring of +2 attacks instead of ring of +11 speed. I got a net +1 on speed because ringil is +10 and chainsword is -2. The damage was very comperable OVERALL. Basically if it wasn't human or orc ringil outperformed barely. But I get +2 dex and +1 speed effectively because of it.

I get the Unicorn of Order for my level 88 quest monster. I battled him like crazy, and destructed a ton, but eventually I ran out of destruction. I never got him lower than 4 to 5 stars. Somebody give me their rough idea of what would be best. What kind of base speed am I looking to get for endgame or near endgame?

I have base of 38 with speed ring (unless I use Amber crown which I got on the level the unicorn was on). I already have STR/Con maxed before Tulkas, so it's probably superfelous. It's kind of just like a ring of slaying +10 +10 and +3 dex. But the AC looks cute, but I don't need the AC that badly. I guess I've talked myself out of using that.

Still give me your thoughts on ring of speed +12, ring of extra attacks+2, and Tulkas.

My gut instinct is that anything above +25 speed is sufficient. Definitely swap +2 ring of Extra Attacks in for Tulkas.

I felt cheated -- not when I died, but the attempt before that. I SWEAR I made sure the serpent wasn't in radius before I destructed. I had him down to 2 stars, and had huge amounts of healing left at that point.

Sigh. So he went to full health, and I went to the surface to refigure.

I had him down to 3-4 stars when I died I think. I think I have a screenshot of that, I'll check. I'm pretty sure he got a double round the round I died. He summoned, some of the summoned stuff hit/breathed on me, and then he hit me again too. I had 39 or 40 speed at that time, so rough luck.

Random was a poly-whore til the end, that's why he lasted so long, I kept having to fix my stats.

I had IMM to Fire/Acid/Cold going against the serpent, but not lightning. I had 42+ mil points, but not sure how that equates to the ladder stuff, since I didn't get a final dump.

I was in the mood to do a magic-eater, but dzhang@its.caltech.edu will be CERTAIN I'm copying every aspect of his play, so I'll shelve that one for a character or two. Probably mage or archer, something very much not pure melee.
