This is the latest attempt in my continuing quest to win ToME with the most horribly disadvantaged character ever.

How far can poor Goffo get? Will he achieve fame and fortune by killing Morgoth and countless other legions of evil? Or will he die from a fatal wound on dungeon level 2?

Place your bets now! :)

For a challenge why don't you try not to abuse fumblefingers so much.
(Race Class) who summons GWoP.
pfft :)

I did like the sorceror winning technique though.

After being almost slain by a Newt in the wilderness (sadly, I'm not kidding), Goffo is back in the saddle again. He's using his good Magic-Device skill to take out enemies at these lower levels because he really doesn't have anything else going for him.

Hey, are you talking about my winning Druid post at http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=2023?

That character only had about twenty-five FF quests. Druids receive .7 in summoning and 1.2 in Monster-Lore from the beginning.

I think having 18/82 DEX is rather high for a level 1 character with no +dex equipment... looks like the shopkeepers are missing a few items (like their sanity for ever allowing you back into their stores... ^_^)

Goffo has been greedily snitching things from pretty much every shop for a while now. Thalkettoth and Maedhros sure help too. :)

Two more close calls: one with a bunch of Forest Trolls near the bottom of the Barrow-Downs, and one with a Poison Seeker Bolts Trap in the Maze.

2 of the 5 Manwe quests completed... But my piety is still awful.

Druids get summoning?
I still think tome encourages all classes to use the same skills.

.7 points a level though, its just ... wrong.

Spent a whole lot of time barging around the depths of Mirkwood looking for stat gain potions. Had some reasonable success, but this character is still extremely wimpy. Can't really fight, can't really cast, and mimicry is useless.

Looks like tough times ahead for our little Hobbit... :P

Heh... But my low skill would make me even more frail in the body of a monster. I would probably get about 300 HP from a Great Wyrm of Balance.

Our hard-luck hero has hit a few snags, realizing that Arms Mimicry is not all that it's cracked up to be. Not only are a grand total of zero extra ring slots granted to this misbegotten Mimic, but it seems that he can't attack at all with his second weapon slot.

Is it a bug? Is it a feature? Or is it merely the gods laughing at this pathetic fool's efforts?

The lower levels of Moria and The Sacred Land of Mountains proved to be ghastly for poor Goffo. He was almost slain by, in succession, Utgard-Loke, Durin's Bane, Scatha the Worm, and Trone. Pitched battles with each of these foes resulted in victory against all odds! Goffo Power!

At least you should by able to wear a 2nd shield and 2nd gloves with Arms Mimicry.
With the right casting frequence you will never lose your extra pair of arms. I did but this was older ToME. Maybe things have changed?! The new cloaks simply suck!

One question. If you go mimic do you only lose the resistance granted by your race or do you also lose the resistance you own because of being a spectre?

Yes, you lose your innate abilities and your racial modifier abilities. This is a shame because that's my only source of Nether resistance... and see invisible!!

Goffo has fallen on very hard times. After a truly harrowing battle against the Necromancer (assaulting him *five* times and being beaten back by hordes of undead and forced to recall each time) he's in Erebor hoping for his luck to change.

This class is atrocious! It's like a Warrior without any fighting ability or a Mage without any magic. I'm seriously wondering if I really can get to the end or if it's just too unlikely.

Erebor, the invasion quest, and the last alliance quest are all done. Next I'm heading for the Paths of the Dead to search for magic items.

Creating spider webs is a good way to ward off dragons and other flying monsters, but monsters that pass or bore through walls just ignore them.

Here's Goffo at level 50, sporting the extra weapon, glove, and shield slot that have made him famous among Hobbit Mimics everywhere :)

Very annoying quest to kill 20 beholder hive-mothers (my least favorite enemy) at the bottom of Mordor. First they drain my charges. Then they drain my sanity. Then they invoke darkness storms upon me and summon more beholder hive-mothers, and the process repeats.

All that remains is the dark pit of Angband. Time to run the gauntlet.

Goffo has found the Ring and is wondering what to do with it.

With his recent acquisition of Nenya, all of his resistances and immunities are now covered. He can also use Lebohaum now, which means a constant AC of over 300!

Guess I'll head off to Mount Doom. On the home stretch now!

Goffo wins!

And boy, was it a nightmare. This character was much tougher than the Yeek Hermit Warrior. He had some advantages, like the high AC from additional eq slots and the ability to create webs to ensnare his opponents (very handy on Mount Doom), but he's also extremely weak and very unmagical, an all-around poor character.

To summarize: the Mimic is a terrible class and should never be played by anyone.

Cheers :)

All things considered thats still a lot of hit points. No chance in the void though.
Still, well done.

Well, maybe I should take on the void just to show you then!

Well, not really. I'm satisfied with the way this character turned out. And he *has* come quite some way from the poor initiate who couldn't kill a Newt at level 1.
