First: Your race is not the optimal one, it is beat every time by the dunadan and the high-elf is only worse in wisdom. Of course, this in no way prevents you from playing humans for whatever reason, but maybe you should play your first games with high-elves and dunadans.
Second: Watch out for acid, don't engage in hand-to-hand fighting with things that you know have acid attacks, it wrecks your equipment.
Third: Are you using the standard roller? You can get better stats as a warrior with point-based, just put all of your points into STR, DEX and CON. Consult the helpfiles for advice on other classes.
Also, don't carry around things that sell for less than 20 or so gold, it's not worth it.

1) I may try other races, i rolled human for the exp rate to have a feeling of the game.
2) I learned it the hard way, but lacking any ranged attack and encountering a room with green mass worm breeding explosively i whacked my way across it before level flooding. Killed 48 green mass worm in the process.
