what are you reading right now?

like a few of my other threads and besides this thread/post, what are you reading at the moment? i'll kick things off with what i'm reading:

i started tactics of conquest (1974) by barry n. malzberg not too long ago

I just finished Ted Chiang's collection of short stories Exhalation. It is good, although not on par with the previous one by the same author (Stories of your life --- one of these short stories originated the movie Arrival), which set a very high bar.



Next I plan to start with Good Omens (Pratchett/Gaiman).

What that wasn't what you meant? Well ok, I recently read Flow My Tears, the Policeman said by Philip K. Dick. It was ok, but not great. Galactic Pot Healer was a lot better and A scanner darkly is amazing, though a little on the depressing side. Anyway lets see if I can do the whole snazzy cover art picture thing.

Did read a lot P.K.Dick when I was younger.
You have read The Man in the High Castle, right? One of my all-time favorites.

Scanner Darkly was really like Nineteen Eighty-Four, but nevertheless really captivating read. Also Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? is worth reading. Only thing is that you cannot wipe images of Blade Runner-movie out while reading it.

I just recently finished John Cleese's autobiography. Can recommend it. Very good lookback of a very silly (walking) man's life and his rise to the institutional position of comedy scene.

I like old sci-fi which isn't dominated by Star Trek/Wars tropes. Even when it was written for juvenile audiences the simplicity encourages thought on topics which seem frequently to be ignored these days (or maby I'm just getting old and crankier).

Chances are if I'm reading science fiction and a slide rule crops up in the story then I'm going to enjoy it.

Haven't read The Man in the High Castle. Will look out for it. I did read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, but it was so long ago that I can't remember much other then it being quite different to the movie & being good. At some point I'd like to find the stories Total Recall & Minority report were based on & read them.

I'm currently halfway reading "A Fire Upon the Deep" by Vernor Vinge.
The idea of civilizations being rudimentary or intelligent depending on how far their system is from Milky Way center, is fascinating.
