    Allowed savefile copy?

    Hi,

i came back to the roots and really enjoy playing V since some months now. But as i also try out different race/class combinations. No problem so far.
Sometimes i have a real promising char (like my dwarf paladin). So now i want to play it on different PCs. But since i have to copy the savefile this could be assumed as cheating. Is it?

I dont want to put angband and the savefiles onto a memory stick. Especially on my netbook it might be possible to break the usb port when i put it away and have it still inserted.

I think there is no cheating if you don't abuse it.

There is no control mechanism to prevent cheating barring self-respect.

In the end the winner dump is only a textfile which could be edited anyway.

I've mailed a savefile from one machine to another and never thought twice about it.

It's not a cheating if you never overwrite a more recent savefile with an earlier one. If you do... well, just mention it in your ladder dumps and AARs.

Thanks for the anwers Actually its what i expect but it made me curious how it should be handled "officially".
I used to save scum in the past a lot and never had a winner. But since i know why perma death is really a feature, i use to start over and over with new chars again. And this happens really often when you are such a bad and inattentive player like me.

I actually tried to do this multicomputer playing with a webstorage service and online file syncing (Asus), but there was no Vista 64bit software for it so ... couldn't run it on my home comp. I bothered to upload manually a few times through the web.

Now I just play on my netbook mostly and do other stuff on the home comp. :P But if you want to skip the usb and have net on all comps, and can install a web drive with some means on all of them to same point you could play on same save file on all I guess.

Rather then moving the save file to a USB drive, I just keep my entire Angband folder on the removable drive. Plug it in wherever you want to play, unplug it when you are finished. No more messy drop and drag/copy and paste. It also reduces the temptation to abuse the save file, as no second copy of it will ever exist.

I keep my entire angband directory in a Dropbox. Works for me. And it makes a whole lot of backups automatically.

Actually i was just thinking about adding the savefile to a webemail draft and download it on another computer.
The whole angband directoy/installation wont work because i have it either globally installed or under windows (sometimes). But dropbox looks really nice. I will browse a bit through the documentation also i think that its especially useful for some other stuff im doing

If it's installed globally it probably write save files somewhere under ~/.angband (actually, it depends on the variant). You can symlink something like ~/Dropbox/angband to ~/.angband. And under windows you can use junctions to achieve a similar effect.
