      Virtue: Individualism

WHAT RACES, CLASSES, AND MAGIC REALMS GET THE 'INDIVIDUALISM' VIRTUE?

      Races:
      Demigod
      Dragon
      Dunadan
      Human
      Tonberry

      Classes:
      Berserker
      Chaos-Warrior

      Magic Realms:
Chaos, but only as a second choice to the Chance virtue (i.e. Chaos normally gives the Chance virtue, but if you already have it from race/class you get Individualism instead).
Craft, but only as a second choice to the Mysticism virtue (i.e. Craft normally gives the Mysticism virtue, but if you already have it from race/class you get Individualism instead).

HOW DO I AFFECT MY INDIVIDUALISM VIRTUE SCORE?

The following things affect your 'Individualism' virtue score:

      -1 when:
You gain a pet via Subjugation (currently only player-accessible through the 'Domination' dragon realm via 'Breathe Subjugation' and 'Aura of Domination' AFAICT).
You charm a monster and it becomes friendlier to you (i.e. a hostile monster becomes friendly or a pet, or a friendly monster becomes a pet).
You kill a unique monster, 1 in 3 times.

      +1 when:
A unique monster who is not the originator of the effect gets healed.
A unique monster who is not the originator of the effect gets hasted.
      You attack a friendly monster.
You attack a pseudo-/unique pet that you are not riding, 1 in 3 times.
You move while wielding Stormbringer into a non-hostile visible monster and you are neither stunned, confused, hallucinating, or berserk.
You are not a berserker and you choose to attack a non-hostile visible monster while you are neither stunned, confused, hallucinating, or berserk.

      +2 when:
You create an artifact by reading a Scroll of Artifact Creation.

WHAT DOES MY INDIVIDUALISM VIRTUE AFFECT?

      Charm power:
Charm Monster/Ring Bearer power for non-Politicians is reduced by -(Individualism / 20) (range: +6 to -6).
      Enslave Undead/Dominate Demon/Charm Animal/Charm Living power is reduced by -(Individualism / 20) (range: +6 to -6).

      Monster pack sizes:
The size of a generated monster pack is multiplied by *((625 - Individualism) / 625) (range: *1.2 to *0.8).

      SPECIAL THANKS
Special thanks to rodent (otherwise known on here as 'Sideways') for helping me parse the parts of the codebase that were incomprehensible to me.

By the way, it gets more and more difficult to actually push a virtue to one extreme. The chance that a point is actually added is halved at 50, 80, and 100, and same for lowering past -50, -80, and -100.

So if anyone is trying to grind chance out at the casino like I did it really doesn't work well past champion (>60) status.

Hrm, looks like you're right; and looks like I missed a few other things too. I'll have to rectify this.

How impatient! You feel less knowledgable. That was not very diligent.

                  Virtue: Justice

WHAT RACES, CLASSES, AND MAGIC REALMS GET THE 'JUSTICE' VIRTUE?

                  Races:
                  Archon
                  Balrog
                  Giant
                  Golem
                  Half-Giant

                  Classes:
                  Paladin

                  Magic Realms:
                  Crusade
                  Daemon
Hex, but only as a second choice to the Compassion virtue (i.e. Hex normally gives the Compassion virtue, but if you already have it from race/class you get Justice instead).

                  Extra:
All characters who don't already have it and eight virtues total have a 4 in 29 chance of receiving the Justice virtue.

HOW DO I AFFECT MY JUSTICE VIRTUE SCORE?

The following things affect your 'Justice' virtue score:

                  -1 when:
You fail to cast a Crusade spell and 1d100 is less than the failrate.
You successfully cast a Daemon, Death, Hex, or Necromancy spell and 1d(100 + CL) is less than the cost.
You sell something to a Black Market.
You buy something from a Black Market.
                  You buyout a Black Market.
You successfully cast a Daemon, Death, Hex, or Necromancy spell for the first time.
                  You attack a friendly monster.
You attack a pseudo-/unique pet that you are not riding, 1 in 3 times.
You kill a town monster with no damaging attacks.
You move while wielding Stormbringer into a non-hostile visible monster and you are neither stunned, confused, hallucinating, or berserk.
You are not a berserker and you choose to attack a non-hostile visible monster while you are neither stunned, confused, hallucinating, or berserk.

                  +1 when:
You fail to cast a Daemon spell and 1d100 is less than the failrate.
You successfully cast a Crusade spell and 1d(100 + CL) is less than the cost.
You successfully cast a Crusade spell for the first time.
You kill a non-unique thief and (MDL / 10 + (DL * 2)) is greater than or equal to (a random number from 0 to 100).

                  +3 when:
                  You kill a unique thief.

                  +5 when:
You turn in a wanted unique.

WHAT DOES MY JUSTICE VIRTUE AFFECT?

                  Shop prices:
The prices of items sold by a Black Market are multiplied by *((625 + Justice) / 625) (range: *0.8 to *1.2).
The prices of items bought by a Black Market are multiplied by *((625 - Justice) / 625) (range: *1.2 to *0.8).

Justice has double the effect on alignment.

                  SPECIAL THANKS
Thanks to Sideways/rodent once again for helping me parse code.

You fail to successfully enchant an object via a psion's Psionic Crafting, 1 in 3 times.
You destroy an object that has a non-zero modifier to to-AC, to-hit, or to-dam.
You fail to successfully enchant any of an object's to-AC, to-hit, or to-dam via the Craft realm's enchantment spells when your Mysticism is less than 100, 1 in 3 times.

You successfully permanently make a shield reflecting (Craft realm's "Polish Shield", ect.).

                      +5 when:
You are prompted to give a newly-created artifact a name, even if you choose to opt out of doing so.

WHAT DOES MY MYSTICISM VIRTUE AFFECT?

                      Nothing! It only affects alignment!

                      Extra Notes

For some reason Mysticism is referred to in the code as VIRTUE_ENCHANTMENT instead of by its actual name like all the other virtues (i.e. VIRTUE_COMPASSION or VIRTUE_JUSTICE).

There's a joke somewhere in mysticsm not directly affecting the mechanics of the game.

                          Virtue: Nature

WHAT RACES, CLASSES, AND MAGIC REALMS GET THE 'NATURE' VIRTUE?

                          Races:
                          Centaur
                          Ent
                          Hound
                          Spider
                          Sprite
                          Wood-Elf

                          Classes:
                          Archer
                          Beastmaster
                          Ranger

                          Magic Realms:
                          Nature

HOW DO I AFFECT MY NATURE VIRTUE SCORE?

The following things affect your 'Nature' virtue score:

                          -1 when:
You fail to cast a Nature spell and 1d100 is less than the failrate.
You buy an empty bottle from a shop.
You buy out/shuffle a shop and one of the objects is an empty bottle.
You successfully finish [T]unnelling a square.
You kill a non-evil non-magical (magical being if the monster has any "non-innate spells," innate spells being stuff like breaths, rockets, rocks, arrows, and shrieks) animal, 1 in 4 times.

                          +1 when:
You successfully cast a Nature spell and 1d(100 + CL) is less than the cost.
You sell or give an empty bottle to a shop.
A natural monster who is not the originator of the effect gets healed.
You make a natural monster into a pet via Subjugation (currently only player-accessible through the 'Domination' dragon realm via 'Breathe Subjugation' and 'Aura of Domination' AFAICT).
You charm a natural monster and it becomes friendlier to you (i.e. a hostile monster becomes friendly or a pet, or a friendly monster becomes a pet).
You make a natural monster into a pet via Charm Animal/Enslave Undead/Dominate Demon/Control Living.
                          You learn/study a Nature spell.
You successfully cast a Nature spell for the first time.

WHAT DOES MY NATURE VIRTUE AFFECT?

                          Charm power:
Charm Animal power is increased by +(Nature / 10) (range: -12 to +12).

                          Monster friendliness:
When your Nature is positive and (a random number from 0 to 1000) is less than it, generated animals are spawned friendly as long as they are allowed to be friendly and they do not have a hostile alignment.

Unlike most virtues, Nature draws your alignment towards neutral.

Thank you so much for this series!

Virtues were always a black box to me. They were there and did something, but damned if I knew what/why/how.

                              Virtue: Patience

WHAT RACES, CLASSES, AND MAGIC REALMS GET THE 'PATIENCE' VIRTUE?

                              Races:
                              Nibelung

                              Classes:
                              Force-Trainer
                              Lawyer
                              Mindcrafter
                              Mirror-Master
                              Monk
                              Mystic
                              Ninja
                              Ninja-Lawyer
                              Psion

                              Magic Realms:
                              None

                              Extra:
All characters who don't already have it and eight virtues total have a 3 in 29 chance of receiving the Patience virtue.

HOW DO I AFFECT MY PATIENCE VIRTUE SCORE?

The following things affect your 'Patience' virtue score:

                              -3 when:
A non-rAll monster gets caught in the AOE of a shattered potion of experience, where the source of the effect was the player (because the player threw the potion, in/directly shattered it on the ground via elemental damage, was a skeleton/skeleton-type monster that quaffed the potion, or had the potion in their inventory when it was shattered by elemental damage).

                              -1 when:
                              You eat unidentified food.
                              You quaff an unidentified potion.
                              You read an unidentified scroll.
                              You become super/hasted.
Your satiation value increases and it takes you to Gorged.

                              +1 when:
You satiate yourself after becoming hungry or worse and it takes you to any other hunger state (yes, even if it's a worse one).

                              +2 when:
You satiate yourself after becoming faint from hunger/starving and it takes you one or more threshholds above that on the hunger bar (i.e. to weak or above).

WHAT DOES MY PATIENCE VIRTUE AFFECT?

                              Monster spawn rates:
New monsters spawn in the dungeon at a rate of (1 in X), X is multiplied by *((375 - Patience) / 375) (range: *1.333 to *0.667, yes, this means that having a high Patience is probably something that most players don't want in most cases).

                                -2 when:
                                You become a wraith.

                                -1 when:
You successfully cast Advanced Bloodsucking (Law "spell").
You successfully cast Purple Vampirism (Troika ability).

                                +1 when:
You successfully cast a Crusade spell and 1d(100 + CL) is less than the cost.
Some of your carried AU is stolen.
Something from your inventory is stolen.
You donate something to the museum.
You destroy an object and its non-adjusted value is both greater than 10000 and less than 30001.
One of your attributes is above 3 and gets permanently drained.
You reach 0 HP from something other than a genocide effect.
You successfully cast a Crusade spell for the first time.

                                +2 when:
All of your carried AU is stolen.
You destroy an object and its non-adjusted value is greater than 30000.

                                +10 when:
                                You die.

WHAT DOES MY SACRIFICE VIRTUE AFFECT?

                                Treasure pile values:
The value of generated treasure piles is multiplied by *((625 - Sacrifice) / 625) (range: *1.2 to *0.8, yes, this means that a high Sacrifice virtue actually handicaps the player, which is perhaps appropriate thematically but possibly not mechanically).
