Which means I have to either get a Windows XP VM up and running with a mingw debug environment - or figure out why mingw debugging doesn't run on Vista...

    Ah well.

You are welcome. *bends under the enormous burden put on his shoulders*

Unfortunately my time for Unangband is as unpredictable as yours. In particular I promised 3 times this year that I won't dabble in Unangband in the near future and every time I quickly find myself churning out patches again (this time it's an unpredictable cold).

    The blurb:

This is an unofficial prerelease of Unangband 0.6.2-gold2. Please test it, while we try to find time to fix a pair of remaining bugs and release it officially.
    Which 2 bugs are they?

I apologize for a lack of changelog here. Lots of changes. The two most important kinds are fixes to some various crashes and to tripled (or more) damage from player magic. Please save often. Savefile compatible (took me a lot of effort).

P.S. A changelog of a kind is at the SVN page:

P.P.S. Linux users, BSD users and other noble people: this is based on today's SVN under ungband/ungband/. Help yourselves.
Again - due to my (lack of) understanding of SVN...

I should point out that due to my almost complete lack of time for Unangband, Bandobras has pretty much taken over maintaining Unangband at the moment... thanks again.

This one is supposed to work for bows and weapons as well, probably even when not activated. I guess the one worn on the right hand only. Normal V rules, so only base damage multiplied. Base damage is the one of the gloves and boots you wear (hand hits firs, foot second, hand, foot, etc. except when charging, which is only by kicking). Bare hands and feet are 1d1 as in V.

Monsters do not cast direct magical attack spells or no spells other than healing and even this twice as rarely, depending on which piece of code you believe in. Also many minor things, like not trying to eat off the floor, AC - 10, less accuracy, etc.

I think the only things changed from V are that instead of the soft limit of 10 you get base AC for armour and dice*sides for weapon damage. I don't remember if arrow dice are taken into account, I suppose not.

Any suggestions for in-game help, either auto-generated or hand-written?

How exactly the other bags differ from this one? Otherwise, as Arralen says. The idea is bags are so good that nobody will try to avoid them (but you can, if you change pickup options or inscribe the bags with, IIRC '=i' and turn on the option that auto-inscribes things once inscribed by you). So I wonder why don't you like bags --- role playing or bad UI or what?

A very wierd bug. Which version? Average age for Maias is 10000. There is a chance of overflow due to aging, but only after years of real-life playing. Was it a borg, by chance?

This is based on 0.6.2-beta 2 again (because I still cannot play the latest version), but I don't think anything has changed since:

Working as designed, as far as I know: a ?oID is a scroll of scrying, somehow, so where(else) should it go if you have that bag in your inventory?

You know what a maiar is, and an instari especially?
Of the many spirits that descended into Arda at its beginning, there were those of lesser stature than the Valar (though they were still powerful) who were...

I must admit, though, that either 13k or 1-2 digit years should be chosen for all of them - the first the time the span since the spirit entered the world, and the 2nd the time since it arrived from the west in the form of an old wizard .. consistency is the key to the dispension of disbelieve

I've since found that he was able to browse some of the song books. I can see ruling out the mage schools but he was also unable to use any of the prayer books I came across. I didn't do an exhaustive test. Only tried what he came across in his adventures. Those may very well have been just 'store books' since he only managed to get to about clvl 20.

Hmm, I've tested it with a magic book of Rune Magic and prayer book of Retribution and song book of Discordances and it works. Try it out in debug mode: ^ac.

I should be more clear: it won't work with books that you may sometimes (according to school choices) buy in normal shops in town (Black Market, etc. is excluded). The rest are OK and I suspect all spells from the ~30 excluded books are also available in the one of the others.

No spells are forbidden, but they have to be read from permitted books.

It would make sense to mark them in the first menu. This character is not able to browse any book other than thaumaturgy school books. His choice has also ruled out any other spells. I can understand ruling out other schools but the whole point of shaman is to have access to a far wider selection of spells.

Really? The feature is, he cannot browse any of the 5 (4?) basic books of any other schools, but otherwise he can learn from all. If you want to browse basic books from other schools do not specialize in school, but in book, and then choose a school. I wonder if we could somehow graphically mark that the first few choices on the book menu are schools, not proper books. Take them in square brackets?

A previous shaman with magic book specialty was given a book choice (runic) and then was also given a school choice. That shaman was able to browse all magic, priestly, and bardic books, and most runes.

Ha, you were right. I always play my Druadan warrior so I didn't notice that a grave spells bug entered 0.6.2-gold just before release. I've just fixed the bug: it made most player spell damage several times larger than intended.

I suppose gold2 is around the corner, whether we can find anybody with Windows and bit of free time to debug Arralen's multiple term problems, or not...
