    can I get the file?

I see the savefile is salvaged fine in the current SVN, perhaps also in the last unofficial gold2 and probably also in the official gold2 coming soon. In case of troubles I can send you the salvaged savefile (but it won't work in original gold). Nice character, BTW, I can't easily keep CL ~ DL in Un (but I'm a lousy player). Bring it on the ladder, if it's legit.
I tried to salvage with the latest gold2 but was unsuccessful. Could you send me the file? It is a nice char and I'd like to try to play it out if I can...

The decision is not yours. Your magic bag takes over. Unless you don't carry bags or inscribe the scrolls with '=i'.

Oh, thank you, I've got it. Now I see the location was no such a great idea, because I had to make a fake Unangband release just to get this file out of Berlios incoming zone.

That's good, becaue gold2 (just around the corner) will be 72 times more stable than gold, so most probably this will never happen again. For some weeks now, I play Un only under valgrind --- a very nasty memory corruption checker --- end it's defiantly silent after the first couple of days when it rained errors, which I corrected. Moreover, next time such a problem occurs, under savefile_name.bkp there will most of the time be a savefile copy from just before dungeon generation and so I'll be able to reproduce the bugs.

I'll take a look at your savefile, nevertheless. Is it needed that I try to fix it?

but I hoped it was since fixed by accident. I really can't nail it. I'll be adding auto-save before entering dungeon for gold2, so both recovering from such corruptions and debugging will be easier.

It would be a great help and perhaps I'd be able to fix the savefile. I guess no hope of a savefile just before the curruption? Anyways, could you tell me what did the dungeon level look like and any other forensic evidence you may have gathered? Thanks.
Sorry, no precrash savefile. I have uploaded the file named Dredlox to the site listed below. There was a special room of some type, like a vault, in the central area of the map. Lots of trees on the level. Not sure what type of vault it was. I was trying to crack it slowly and I think it was open on one end as the 'contents' were coming out around one end and I was picking them off one by one

Anywhere on the Web would be oK. E.g. in
    ftp://ftp.berlios.de/incoming

Or I may send you my email address via forum private message.

P.S. One more thing: did you play the official 0.6.2-gold or of the two unofficial prereleases of 0.6.2-gold2? Perhaps the bug is fixed, after all, which is why I can't reproduce it...
It was the official gold version.

Bandobras: Yes! you are true, I have pickup_inven on. So if I have ?oID I will automatically pick up matching bag and after that I will automatically pick up matching items... Ok, now I understand it, but I don't like it.

everybody is bound to carry tons of scrolls of treasure detection
Really? I don't feel urge carry ?oTD, yet....

This is a part of the flavour you eventually learn to love, hate, ignore...
Ok, I will hate it in silence...

    Un threads the middle road...
    Okay, it makes sense.

I am not sure... yes it is possible, that it was on the grass or some terrain.

I'll take the liberty of replying to your response to Arralen and to me jointly. Of course, these are my private opinions and in no way do they represent the views or opinions of Arralen, nor do I insinuate they are endorsed or approved by him in any way, shape or form.

Are you sure you don't have pickup_inven (pick up items matching inventory) option on? This is the only thing that would explain why no other bag is picked up --- you have no items matching the other bags.

Well, I'm sorry to say that, but in Un everybody is bound to carry tons of scrolls of treasure detection at high levels --- that's the kind of game elements people fork off variants for.

No, there is no such information and won't ever be. This is a part of the flavour you eventually learn to love, hate, ignore or use to your advantage (multiple bags for a single tval offer you some information about unidentified items).

Thank you for you opinion. It's a tough design decision --- either diminish the strategic importance of inventory management by extending it, or face a kind of Too Much Junk problem, because inventory is so limited players never use most of the item types. Un threads the middle road --- bags are available only for the item families, which most members are never used: wands, potions, scrolls.

Is it on the grass or something similar? Can you find it nearby? What is the message?

Thanks for you opinion, again. If there is more popular demand we may consider this. However, out position is rather that the more automatisation the better, as long as the game rules make the best choice obvious. I think we'd rather change the game rules to make your scroll of treasure detection beneficial to you, than refrain from putting it inside your backpack forcibly.

Bandobras: The difference is that another bag was not auto-picked. For another things see my reply to Arralen.
Now I am using only Bag of Maps in my home in town (it is clear even for me which things can be stored in this bag .
btw. sometimes Bag of Scrying just disappears when I drop it.

It is version gold2 (WinXP). No, it is normal character.

I just go over pile of items and -bing- I had MBoS in my inventory. And moreover, when I go over scroll of treasure detection, lying on the ground, with bag in my inventory, it was automatically picked up too. I don't want scroll of treasure detection!

Bag of another type was not picked up automatically.

I have problem also that I don't know which items can bag store. Maybe I overlook this information somewhere... It seems that there is many types of bags -- I would like bag for books, bag for all scrolls, but bag for only some types of scrolls seems weird to me.

Also personally I don't like having thousand things in inventory as it is in some RPG games... I think that it is part of game strategy choose which things have for my journey to dungeon....

Second prerelease of a second ultimate release of Unangband 0.6.2 is out!

This is the second and probably last unofficial prerelease of Unangband 0.6.2-gold2. Almost all significant bugs are fixed (apologies to Arralen for ignoring him again), but consequently, the balance is probably broken (e.g. monsters now correctly fail to cast spells, which makes low level casters wimpy) and the changes are untested. Please check the balance and try to nail down any remaining crash and corruption bugs, with the help of backup savefiles that are now created before (almost) every dungeon generation. Regardless of the backup savefiles, please save often. Savefile are, and will, remain compatible with gold.

Compiled from current SVN/unangband/unangband. Wingdows download at:

Proposed codename for gold2: "Not all that glitters is gold".

    broken savefile

Just tried to run a character that came back with a broken savefile message.
    Too many (64) ecology entries!
It then attempts to fix the problem which fails and I get a pop up message that says broken savefile. Should I send in the file and if so to what location?
