I have been playing a little bit. Got loads of stuff on the first few levels, probably some more adjusting is necessary.
Could be a good starting point for new players maybe.

I found a ring of strength +1 on 50' and a there were some normal weapons on 50' and 100'. Then I got a hammer of fire and a hammer of *slay* demons with +1 int and rfire. I also got some staves and loads of scrolls.

Without the hammer and a lot of CMW! it could have been instadeath approaching a room with a horde of low level priests and a shrieking mushroom. That was a bit hard too early.

I also got leather armor with racid and a rod of slow monster.

Yep. Novice priests are the second-most-dangerous early group enemy, after novice paladins; doing any fighting in the company of a shrieker is also a recipe for disaster. Arguably you shouldn't have survived.

I'll try and work in some playtime for this next week. I think it would be neat to play this while everyone else plays 3.0.6 for the competition. Others might need looking backwards, I need looking forwards. I need to learn what a Ring of the Dog is. I have no idea.

when did you come across the hammer of flame? You shouldn't be finding those at 50'.

All those seem ok to me. Do you find that too generous? None of those weapons are overpowering. The maul of flame was a bit of a lucky find though. You're much more likely to find weaker slay weapons at that depth. But still, it's not going to be your primary weapon for very long.

It's certainly much better than the current version.

I found two Gondolin weapons at 1300, one with rconf. Nice!

Also, the shops have something to offer early in the game, which I am missing in 3.4.1.

I've been seeing some of the new rooms.

It gives you more con and dex, but has the nasty side effect of randomly causing missed turns when @ feels the overwhelming urge to hump the leg of his opponent instead of fighting.

Looks like the stats module isn't linked correctly in the makefile. Usually I always leave stats turned off whenever I push stuff, but since I've been doing lots of stats runs in my test version, I left them on here.

Assuming you don't want to do stats runs, the simplest solution would be to delete line 895 "#define USE_STATS" in defines.h

Let me know if this fixes the problem.

Well, i can build it with stats enabled - so thats great After all its just for testing purposes. Well, until you versions become official

yes. If you want to make doubly sure, check the birth options and see if "smart AI" has been removed and replaced with the split options for ironman (no recall, and forced descend)
