Good points. Angband, for the most part, started with Moria and just added to it. I never intended to make Angband lite, although I am starting with a pretty good replica of Moria by simply turning many Angband features off and making Moria edit files. The reason for starting with Angband is to capture all of the UI improvements rather than the game improvements.
I am not against replacing the bow slot with a swap weapon, although I would want to do that as a "phase 2" change. First I want to get a good, working and relatively bug-free code base. I still have alot of issues to work through. Some of the small and subtle changes between Moria and Angband involve some major changes to the code.
Any original Moria players still around?

Automatic warnings of "you're trying to attack with your ranged weapon!" As a default would be way better than changing one of the things that makes Moria, moria!
Although people who want to win with diggers will have to disable this check, it removes frustration while preserving a fun gameplay element.
If you add "Angband improvements" to moria willy nilly, it'll become Angband!Leave a comment:

Another way to fix this is to automatically inscribe all identified bows and diggers withand add check to attack for inscriptions.Code:!,

Yes, instead of a secondary weapon slot, there is a bow slot. I find it prefereble to a player acidentally trying to beat an ancient dragon to death with a crossbow.I'm not quite understanding this. Are you saying that the "secondary weapon" slot will only be usable by bows (rather than any weapon), or are you saying that the player will now be able to simultaneously wield both a bow and a melee weapon? One of the important mechanics in Moria (at least, IMO) is the need to switch back and forth between a bow and a melee weapon, which helped to make archery much less powerful than it would otherwise be.
Switch weapons will still work, only under the Angabnd system they have to be inscribed with @x or something very close to that.Leave a comment:

Have you tried Sil? It's a bit like original Moria. Really an interesting variantThis works only if the b) slot is like a "prepared weapon" like in DoomRL, then the x swap key switches between them.
Having Swapping ranged/melee taking time makes the game more interesting. The only ranged attack buff I could see being justified is angband targetting because playing tactics micro to line up enemies on NSEW/diagonalls is silly, esp when they can target you easier.Leave a comment:

In Moria, Holy Avenger does give See Invisible, but not free action. Defender weapons give both. There are only around 4-5 items that give either. I am considering adding rings of free action to give the player a little more options. It looks like the claymore does a lot more damage....that being said I remember HA (holy avenger ) weapons to be the most powerful in moria. Does the defender give you see invisible? I can't remember exactly but if it does I would go with that as see invisible was quite rare in moria. A shooter weapon would be awesome in moria, but with the target path, and poor inventory sorting with old moria, I always found that very aggravating to manage
In the upcoming NPPMoria, there will be a bow slot just like in Angband.
I am still making decent progress. I finished Moria dungeons and a moria-like speed system. The code is still in alpha-state, but if I can keep this pace up I will definitely have a decent beta within a month.Leave a comment:

Yeah i do carry them both. I know about the second weapon slot of course haha. That would be pretty awful if I didnt.
I was just curious what anyone's opinion on which is the better weapon to enchant and use as primary.
Anyway. Ill try the regeneration crown.Leave a comment:

Moria had the "x" xchar slot where you could swap weapons or a digger, wear/wield item slot A weapon and then press "x" to swap weapons and equip the new weapon in the slot, you can then press X to swap between weaponsLeave a comment:

Any reason you can't use both weapons? Carry one as a swap for when you don't need the abilities provided by the other.
I have no idea how well-balanced Moria's combat system is, but in Angband I'd take regeneration over a bit of AC any day.Leave a comment:

a couple questions for any who have advice
I am having bouts of indecision about my two weapons. And two armour items.
And I am wondering which to commit to, and enchant more if i can.
Weapons:
Mace (DF) (2d4) (+10,+8) [+9] (+2 to stealth) or
Two-Handed Sword (Claymore) (FB) (3d6) (+14,+19)
Armour:
Golden Crown of Regeneration [0,+6] or
Steel Helm [6,+9]
Pros, cons anyone?
My armour class is hovering around 100-ish give or a bit depending on the helm and weapon.Leave a comment:
