    Quickband 2.0.3 released

    Hello all

Quickband 2.0.3 source and windows binaries are now available at oook. OS/X port to follow.

    In this version:
    • new class - the Sage (who can cast priest, wizard and druid spells)
    • new races - the Maiar (ironman race), Half-Elf (super-autoscum race), High-Elf (strong in the early game, but afflicted by the Doom of the Noldor in the late game), and Dunedain (weak in the early game, but slowly grows more powerful as he accepts his destiny)
    • overall improved game balance (in particular, the late game is harder for warriors and half-casters)
    • a few bugfixes.

Since 2.0.2, Quickband also has the Barbarian and Berserker classes, who access their powers by building up Rage.

    Enjoy,
    A.

    OSX port.

There should be a Quick comp soon too, which will probably run alongside the current one.

Can't make, either with Makefile.std or the Makefile that I used for the previous version. On Ubuntu Linux 10.04. Error is

      Code:
      main.c: In function ‘main’:
main.c:323: error: ‘GRAPHICS_OLD’ undeclared (first use in this function)
main.c:323: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
main.c:323: error: for each function it appears in.)
      make: *** [main.o] Error 1

Worked around that problem by commenting out the option processing code for "-g", now it fails at the linking stage because it wants to link snd-sdl.o. But the sdl options are commented out in Makefile.std. For some reason, the linker thinks it needs it but it doesn't, and I can't figure out how to stop it.

Yeah, with the workaround where I comment out the code in main.c that refers to GRAPHICS_OLD.

Confusion is a lot more dangerous in this game, CLW doesn't do squat against it.

Carry CSW or CCW, which cure confusion in one quaff. And watch out for fast-moving melee confusers...

I've been playing Half-Elf Rogues, and I'm finding that auto-scum basically has the effect of making me clear each level to find all the drops/clear all the monsters. I'm going back to town to lug stuff to sell. It's actually slowing down the game a lot. The game ends up being easier, because by the time I clear a level, I'm already way past the point where the game wants me to go deeper. I find myself around clev20-25 by the time I'm at dlev 4.

I might try just leaving good items on the floor, even though keeping them would net me a lot more gold, the hassle just isn't worth it.

Confusion is a real annoying PITA. I can't afford CSW starting out. I can't even afford a WoR. But I easily find myself on dlev 3 on my first run, where shamans can instantly render you into a staggering fool and you've got no defense.

Tried a half-elf shaman - it feels like there is something wrong with the spell failure chances. I was often having 5% failure chance spells failing 2 or 3 times in a row. Sequences like F F W F W F F W were common.
Other than that it was great fun - not sure about the half-elves destiny though - didn't seem like that much in the way of good drops - just lots of pits Is it like having auto-scum permanently on?

I'll check failure chances. Did you have problems with devices or just spells? Presumably you weren't stunned at the time??

The half-elf has autoscum=T, also he has more chance of special levels, special rooms, and OOD monsters. It makes the dungeon pretty action packed.

PS Was shaman a typo for "sage" or "druid" perchance?
