Oops, my mistake - it was sage. Not stunned and only noticed for spells. Didn't use devices much given the range of spells and lots of mana.

I have a bug report from a user, who's running OS/X. He says that shift-arrowkey does not make the @ run. Instead he needs to use full stop then arrowkey. Has anyone encountered this before?

You may want to make the experience penalties for races/classes tougher. My Maiar mages usually reach clev 3 before they even hit the first stairs, clev 12 (learning identify) before they hit dlev 4. I also have way too much mana. I could get by easily on 2/3s what I have now. I think nothing of using hurricane to kill things, I have that much mana. I can spam magic missile all day, I gain the mana back faster than I can dish it. Unique fights are a cakewalk, assuming I'm prepared. I can only ever remember dying to confusion. One game, I found the book with Prismatic Spray, and I felt like I was cheating for being able to cast it 5 or 6 times. It wasn't zero fail, but with that many attempts, it didn't really matter.

I know I've been complaining about stuff, but honestly, the game feels too easy. If it weren't for Curious Spirits, I think I would have won by now.

I also tried playing the Sage, but I found it more trouble than it was worth. I think it would be awesome if he had his own books with all the powerful spells for each class. Balance that with some truly hellish handicaps, and you might have something there.

Interesting. Have you tried a non-Maiar character?

I just spotted this. Does it say "RAGE!" on the status line? More importantly, does Smeagol now go round saying "plz no rage" ?

Well, I played half-elf mages, had the same problem. It took going down brown stairs rather than white to make things interesting. When I'm really out of depth, the mana doesn't seem so endless. But if I stay on each level until I get the "Go Deeper" message, I feel ridiculously overpowered. Also, even with Maiar Mages, I can gain like eight levels just by casting spells that haven't been casted yet.

Yeah, suggest you try a 'normal' character like an Elf Mage and see how that flies.

If you want to know you will have to try it for yourself!

Elf has +2 int, same as Half-Elf. I'll have the same amount of mana. Playing as a Maiar, I actually kept 4 or 5 points back so I could have enough gold to buy MB2 and 3 before I go down. That meant my stats that matter were only a little better. only now I have to deal with ironman. Now I won't have to do that, so I can put those into Str, Dex, and Con. So my starting Elf Mage has +2 speed and 12 con and 8 str. But the real boon is being able to use WoR and tlev again.

I noticed I can partly ID stuff by turning the "Always pickup" option on in the squelch menu. As I walk over potions and stuff I have set to always pickup, it'll pick them up even if they haven't been id'ed yet.

By the way, I'm going to cancel the XP award for casting spells in 2.0.4. (Let me know if you want to try a version with this change earlier.)

Depending on further feedback I may also consider reducing max SP and/or slowing mana regen.

I've died three times to Ghouls/Ghasts. Free Action is in *very* short supply in this game.

Mm. You can buy free action boots at the store sometimes, or a ring at the black market.
