    [announce] Sangband 1.0.1 released

    Sangband 1.0.1
    Major changes since 1.0.0
    • Savefile INCOMPATIBLE!
    • No longer able to raise skills once you reach power 100.
    • Magic oaths are harder to come by, martial oaths easier.
    • Improved support for shadowstalker characters.
      - Able to pick locks, use devices, and disarm in the dark with infravision. Able to read certain scrolls in the dark.
      - Ability to cast priestly and necromatic spells in the dark with less or more power, respectively.
      - Infravision now maps the dungeon, and allows you to see objects on the floor.
      - Burglary now gives a 'darkness' talent.
    • Martials arts revamped; they get criticals, have more than two blows, and can benefit from brands and deadliness. They provide a variety of bonuses depending on skills.
    • Add history to character dumps.
    • Improve display of weapon blows, hit rate, damage, and resistances on character screen.
    • Adjust polearm and hafted damage to compare better with swords.
    • Dropped books will show a preference for the player's spellcasting type.
    • Game will now by default generate extra cash, but prevent selling objects (birth option).
    • Monsters target player in rubble properly.
    • Dwarves are smart, instead of wise.

Woot! I might just give up on Jackband now that this variant is alive once again :P

Hmm, if I load a savefile and create a new character with the same name, I get an out of memory error

Are you using a savefile from a previous version? I'm unable to replicate this bug.

No, I created a savefile in 1.0.1, and when my character died, I loaded it up and created a new character...

Maybe there's something corrupt in the savefile. Have you tried a different savefile or deleting that one? With those directions, I'm unable to reproduce the issue.

How many of these changes were already in the previous unofficial beta, and how many are new in 1.01?

Also, making dwarves smart instead of wise may fit better from a Tolkien/flavour point of view but it does leave a major hole in the selection of good races for priest characters; there are already a lot of races with + int but I think that leaves only Elves with + wis out of the 'normal' races (and Dunedain from the 'easy' races.)

Anyway, I'll give it a try once I've finished my current game.

              Edit: oh, and Hobbits too.

Oh wow. I was just coming back to V after a month's fixation with EU:Rome (awesome game, in case anyone was looking for a strategy recommendation) ... but I can feel a dark elf burglar-necro coming on instead ...

Congrats on getting a new version out, and thanks for the effort. I'll let you know if I have trouble compiling it on Linux ...

OK, I'll try creating a new savefile... would you be interested in my savefile, in case you can glean anything from it?

Also, why is it that item a (some food rations) never appears in the item list term window?

edit: I also notice my character runs past closed doors, which is annoying, and also that sometimes the game just freezes for a few seconds randomly! Music doesn't work either

I created a new savefile and after my character died, I got the same crash when starting a new one... I did choose yes to the "overwrite savefile" prompt after naming my character... was I not supposed to do that? :P

Elves also switched their int and wis, but +1 <-> +2 isn't big enough to hit the major list.

Many of the changes have already been released (some of the infravision changes, the martial arts changes)

Send it on, but unless it rears its head elsewhere, I probably won't look at it.

                        Which food items?

I didn't compile the SDL version, so that might explain music. Running past closed doors is expected behavior when the ignore_doors option is set, which it is by default. Does changing this option fix it?

That shouldn't matter. Send the safefile on my email address (redacted).

OK, sent you both my savefiles...

As for the missing items in the term window, it actually seems to be whatever item is item "a" in the inventory - once I bought a spellbook, the food rations appeared as item "b", but the spellbook was not listed!

I'll try the ignore_doors option - I thought there might be some option like that, but I couldn't find it right away... I'll check again!
