what the *** is deleting my folders !!

Nice, i hope you can give me some advice on what the hell is happening. Maybe someone else also is experiencing the same problem.

Let me say that it's obvious that this is something that's wrong with my system.

Every few days or so (but sometimes even just half an hour later) my "icons" folder disappears from my Angband folder.

I downloaded 4.2.1 just yesterday (to try the paladin; Nick .. did you really add a passwall, life-draining, invisible mob that's native to DL22??? why?) and played for an hour or so, i go to load the game today and BAM! "Angband cannot find your Icons folder".
Today it went one step further and it could not find the Scores folder either - both were gone.

Now, this is not an actual problem, because i just copy-paste the icon folder from the .zip into the game folder, and problem solved.
But it keep happening. Sometimes right away, sometimes after weeks. To 4.2.1, to 4.2, to 4.1.3 so it's not specific to any one build.

What is it? Is my antivirus deleting is as a false positive? (Windows Defender) I don't get any "threat found" notifications.

    Running W10 LTSC x64.

That's bizarre. Can you check the quarantine in Windows Defender to see if there are any file stuck there?

Nope, nothing listed under threats or quarantine.
Note that *only* Angband is affected by this behaviour.

i decided to run a scan now - nothing detected - folders still in place.

No idea about what's happening to your folders. As far as I know there's still no invisible passwall mob earlier than Dreads. But those can show up in the mid-20s if there's a vault.

no, my mistake, not passwall, but diggers rather.

I don't think there are *any* invisible diggers. And certainly the only (small) mobs are Greater Balrogs (often in attendance on Gothmog.) The only big digger mobs i know of are Steam Drills in Steamband. The last 10 levels are spent entirely in running for the next stairs, before the Steam Drills and Nazi tanks (who together hunt in packs ) arrive. They will find you and they will kill you.

Close, abyss worm mass. That's the invisible life-draining digging (and you missed breeding) monster, (presumably) not what's deleting folders.

Yikes! Breeding, Invisible, cold blooded, AND a darkness aura. But I bnever noticed, because it moves slowly.

Are you running any other games or programs that use folders named "Icons" or "Scores" perchance?

                    Any variants?

i don't know, but i think not. No variants, and the only games i have are Quake and FTL, both of which are on a separate disk, in their steam subfolders.

If it happens frequently enough after recreating the folders, maybe you can grab Process Monitor and then run it until the folder deletes itself again.

If you catch it happening while this is open, you can look for the deletion event to see what's doing it. (Though beware, this will use a LOT of RAM if you keep it running for too long)

                        I hope that's helpful~ ^^
