    DSM at dlv 18?

I just found Red Dragon Scale Mail (-2) [24, +29] <+2, +1> {??} at dlv 18 with a level feeling of just 3‽ I think it's Dwarven (it has +2 to Str and Con and +1 to infra) but I forget what else Dwarven egos have.

This just confirms to me that level feelings are not worth paying too much attention to, but it makes me wonder whether I understand how the feelings work, or whether DSM is more common than I thought at lower levels.

    Thoughts?

I don't really feel as if it's that rare, especially because it's just red and not something super op like Multi-hued dragon scale mail. I think it's pretty normal to find Red/green/blue scale mails that low although, maybe not because idrk

But Dwarven(I think) DSM with such a low LF?

I suppose, it being dwarven makes it a bit more uncommon, being on DSM. But I still think the only weird thing about finding it that low is that it was on a 3 LF :/

Was it a floor item or a monster drop?

Red dragon scale mail is native to DL 40 and below, and so is the (Dwarven) DSM ego; but Vanilla Angband is very happy to generate stuff out of depth.
The Complainer worries about the lack of activity here these days.

It was lying on the floor. I almost left the level before seeing it, thank you object detection spell!

I've seen craftsmanship, stealth, speed and artifact DSM but I've never seen Dwarven DSM.

At 18 that would definitely trigger more than a 3. Must have been a monster drop.

Please can you screenshot the DSM so we can see it, and also see how it dropped?

Dwarven also has a CON bonus

Yeah, this item should trigger higher treasure feeling than 3 at DL18.
Post a screenshot from the item description. If it reads "it was lying on a floor..", there's something wrong.

Otherwise, congrats for the great find. Free action, 53 AC, str+con bonus, infravision and powerful fire attack all in one package.

Oops, yeah it was a monster drop; I could have sworn otherwise, either it died off-screen or I was on mental autopilot (dangerous). It was dropped by a black ogre, which still seems a bit unlikely but not as strange for sure

                    I called it.

Level feelings aren't always helpful for a character but they are at least consistent.

                    So is it really dwarven?

Dwarven is really good. I often do my early-mid levels with a dwarven non-DSM armor, the +2 STR / +2 CON is just too convenient to pass, since i like to play damage, with Ring of STR plus whatever else can boost my DPS.
You add FA and rFire and also the fire breath (ok granted, not the most awesome, as acid and cold are generally better at that depth, but still, it's free, ok?) and you got a pretty decent demi-artifact there.

FA allows you to switch boots of FA for boots of stealth. At low depths any stealth goes a long way.

You can break out the diary and write that today i have officially defended stealth as not-useless.

When I first started playing, I didn't trust them.

I assumed that since they were described as "feelings" that there was significant error involved.

So I cleared every level anyway.

Stealth caps easily, especially at higher cl, but it's certainly not useless.

Not to rogues and mages, anyway.

Nuthin' like strolling casually thru a pit filled with nasties, including three or four uniques, bashing the little ones and kiting the bigguns out individually to your preferred terrain which you have already cleared of desirable, fragile loot.

What does this mean? You need 28 points to get max stealth... Is that what you are saying is easy?
