So your half-orc Blackguard has 16K gold

In the black market you find:

    a Scroll of Acquirement 15K
a Wand of Teleport Other 15.75K

Note - you have base resist AND a wand of TO that you just found already.
But other than your shield and your free action gloves, everything could use a sizable upgrade.

Or do you ignore them both, buy some cure crits and go back to adventuring.

It's pretty rare that I find something useful from a scroll of acquirement; I'd pick wand of TO every time.

Yeah the randomeness of the acquireness, the fact that I need so much (I'm wielding a Tulwar of slay orc!) plus the fact I already have a wand of TO makes this more interesting.

      But those wands do break.

i mean, a wand of TO is basically a warrant to loot one vault, free of charge. feel like that competes pretty effectively with acquirement.

If I have a wand of TO I probably wouldn't buy one. My luck would be if I bought the wand I would then almost immediately find a free spare when I enter the dungeon again and then when I returned to town the BM would have something I want that 15k would have allowed me to afford. I also haven't had very many bad experiences of wands blowing up when recharded. Staves of speed on the other hand...

Acquirement is just a crap shoot. Unless I have a lot of money with nothing to buy I never buy them.

Unless my depth is shallow enough I would probably just save the money.

For a blackguard, I would buy a Wand of TO without a blink of an eye.

Scroll of acquirement will probably give you a few bolts of slay orc, not worth it. Get the wand, charges deplete very fast when you start to use it...

I've had a few artifacts drop out of a scroll of acquirement before. I'm sure there's no coding truth in the matter, but the chances of a good drop always seem higher to me the deeper in the dungeon you read it and if you are playing randarts. Most of the time it's partial plate of resistance or something like that

                  90/10 towards TO.

if you are already DL40+ and have not found a sizeable number of artifacts, then Acq might be good, but if you are inching along and have already found the low-power artifacts of your depths, then TO is better - as said before, it guarantees you free looting of one (or two, with recharging) vaults.

Acquirement generates one GREAT (most likely ego) item at your current depth +10--nice, but nothing you aren't just as likely to find in the next lesser vault . The wand of TO, however, is guaranteed to be useful.

                          David--
See my previous post. Yes, Acquirement gets better, but vaults also become more common, and even a lesser vault is likely to generate an ego item. And vault items are also generated out-of-depth.

I'm not addressing any of that. I'm just saying if you want the most out of your scroll, read it in the dungeon.

The correct answer is to kill 800 aimless merchants and buy both.

I'd take the TO wand without a 2nd thought. These things get electrocuted or run out of charges all the time and you can never have too many charges. Having 70 charges just means you get to TO whole packs of time hounds.
