    Hoist on his own Huorn

Had a kinda weird thing happen. Lorgan, Chief of the Easterlings, summoned a Black-hearted Huorn who trampled him. He disappeared but did not die.

This may look strange but I actually find it very realistic.
Someone in big trouble wants to summon the strongest monster to help - but if it's too strong, the monster can't be controlled and destroys the summoner.

As why Lorgan did not die - that's just how the game works in general. If a unique is removed from a level then it's not dead and can be regenerated later. Otherwise it would be easy to use Huan to trample over all uniques in a big vault.

Keep in mind that if a monster gets trampled, everything in its inventory is gone. I believe that can result in lost artifacts if you have preserve mode turned off and the monster started with an artifact in its inventory. It can definitely result in losing most of the reward from a vault if a Dread or similar scoops all the non-artifacts up and then gets trampled.

All fine points, but most people would expect a trampled enemy who completely vanishes to be dead, not banished somehow.

I have a character obituary in the high scores list who was "killed by the strain of casting Mass Bani on dungeon level 47". I'm sure Mass Bani is usually a nice guy, and that he just really doesn't like to be thrown around...

Yep, and this is true...for non-unique monsters. For gamey reasons (mostly I believe to cater to those who want to "100%" the game) uniques can only be killed by the player. Indeed I believe that if they get hurt by another monster, that damage cannot kill them; they'll just survive at 0HP.

Why not disable unique trampling for the same gamey reasons and only allow them to be "pushed past"?

That's a fair question. We might also wonder why earthquakes are allowed to delete unique monsters.

Things that shield monsters from vampire strike:

Yeah, I made a note of that as well. It's *anything* (as far as I can tell) including yourself. Also, the message to the player is not very precise. Took me a while to figure out what it actually meant - I thought it was a monster resistance. "There is no open space to attack from" might be better.

Encountered a couple of bugs in a 4.2.0 game, played on a Windows 7 machine.

The first bug was encountered when targeting and then teleporting away Gothmog, and then casting the spell Single Combat on an enemy using a direction key (i.e. not targeting). This resulted in the error attached as angband_error1.jpg. After the game crashed and reloading the save I was in the Single Combat room with Gothmog, not the enemy I actually cast the spell on. Fortunately I was able to beat him, but it was definitely not a fight I was expecting.

                              Steps to reproduce
                              1. Target an enemy using * or '
                              2. Teleport away using the rod of teleport in inventory
                              3. Stand next to a different enemy and cast Single Combat, using an arrow key instead of * or '

Some time after this when I tried to book cast recall out of the dungeon, I get the error message attached in angband_error2.png (side note, why does the website upload the first as .jpg and the second as .png? They're both .pngs). I can't remember for sure but I think this was the first time I recalled since encountering the first bug, so the two might be related.

                              Steps to reproduce
                              1. Cast Recall from book

I've attached a savefile for convenience, both bugs are reproducible in it. I'd really appreciate it if the savefile could be fixed, hopefully the bugs aren't too hard to track down.

See other thread "You fail to harm ..." -- seems like it may be a bug.
