    4.1 pre-release

OK, so originally I was hoping to have an actual official release early this year, and it is already 1/4 gone. So I've looked at what we have, reverted one or two things, and have a 4.1 pre-release for Windows, OSX and as source.

Please have a look; as always, I'll be interested to hear opinions.

Sounds like a potential compo in the future

If I'm offline I'm probably in the middle of maintaining Gentoo or something-Linux or other.

I have a CL37 mage in 4.0.5 to win or die with, but once she's gone I'll be playing this. Looking forward to it.

The OS X link appears to be a legacy disk image. Can be converted, of course, but just a heads-up.

Nevermind. It appears it cannot even be converted correctly. :/

4.1 release on 4/1 (american style dates) Coincidence? Should we post on the usual places (roguebasin, reddit.com/r/roguelikes, etc.)

Do we have a list of patchnotes?

I think the release notes basically just need to read:
                    • Fixed all the balance issues
                    • Made game "not easy"
                    • Implemented rockets

Welcome to modern macOS, where they break everything every third-party program uses and then don't even provide any improved functionality in exchange. Upgrading past 10.9 was the worst mistake I ever made.

Re: 4.1, I was hoping to get an update for Rocketband out. Sounds like I don't have to now.

Someone has kindly written a set of patchnotes here.

There should have been a unique named Nick, uber-strong like the Zombified Serpent J but brutal like the PGR

I got the joke prior to splatting my mage on Morgoth http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=20486

But I might play this anyway

Not that I'm wasting all my time playing Angband. The editor is almost halfway nearly there, I'll make a post about it in the next couple of days. One thing it should be able to do by then with a bit of configuration is import e.g. monster or item lists from other variants into the vanilla *.txt format (or with more work from e.g. vanilla to a variant), but that will probably only become useful once the program learns to cross-reference the data to see which values are allowed in which fields. Of course vanilla can't do everything that other variants can, which is why they're variants.

It occurs to me as I write this we need One Engine to Rule Them All but that is a rather distant goal.
