Just to bows. You're not getting 5 shots/round by playing a ranger and using a Buckland sling!

It's actually more than twice as powerful as Belthronding, which I usually am very happy to get. Bel is 3X +1 shooting speed and this particular Buckland is X4 +2 shooting speed, and it's to-dam is better than belthronding. Amazing.

And just picked up Power Dragon Scail Mail in a greater vault at DL97. Once again rNether is the missing link. Could swap out Thorin, but I kinda like acid immunity and extra CON. Sauron soon!

Edit: I just tried to teleport MoS out of the vault in a favorable Knight's move. It said he was targeted, but he didn't disappear when I TO'd him, but my rod is now charging.

I fire 18 mithril shots of lightning (1046/rnd vs Glaurung) and only 1 broke.

What in the good graces! I already have a wicker shield of preservation at home so I didn't bother to look at the metal shield of preservation... until just now just now to remind myself of all of its powers: this one has rNether, too! Like, hellloooooo, character solved. I forgot that they all have rDis and one other random resist.

edit: Catoras drops Nenya on DL99 right after I had TO'd Huan.

If you have "use old target by default" option enabled, be VERY careful. The current Angband code doesn't check the old "monster", but the old "grid" instead. So if you used TO on something, it will always target the same grid unless you manually target the new monster to TO.

Hmm... not sure what you mean, but Morgoth fell after 58494 turns. What's the fastest he has been defeated? Mind you, I played with forced descent on.

There's a command ("c") on the character sheet for changing the character name. I think that should allow you to post to a different character on the ladder.

Nice job, in any rate. 58k player turns is pretty damn fast!

Thanks guys for all the help on here.

Okay, I've just had a string *stupidly* close calls. Here's a reckless DAR:

So I was running low on ?Phase and heals after taking on the Sanyando brothers who used up all my heals confusing me. I was fighting both of them at the same time. I picked up a good sling of power (+19) on DL6. It was a dangerous and close fight, but I was able to close it out without having a true NDE (but I was repeatedly taken into dangerous HP) when I aimed an unknown wand of cold balls at them (9 charges). Picked up the Phial and decided, while I only had 1 ?phase left and !CLW left I'd take on son of Azog since I have a westernesse of slay orc rapier. It looked like it was going well, my two rings of reckless attacks (fitting for my reckless playing style) doing their work (but I think I had -2AC), but the last couple rounds he really took it out of me. I had like 46 health, he had like 3 bars. I knew I'd die if I went another round. But I had no more escapes. I looked at my inventory; a fair bit of unidentified scrolls and potions (already used ?Teleportation). So I used my ID'd !Speed, figuring that will shorten his turn enough to keep me from dying. He did his round and brought me to 2 health. Not much choice, I whacked at him and sent him running for his life. After I killed him I rested a few turns and nearly died agian when I got hit by an Uruk arrow, bringing me to 0 health.

Azog gave me a {splendid} shield and I recklessly ran into a disenchanter mold, and my shield glowed. Next level I run into one of the Unique DL24 dwarves and decide I don't want to risk it and I best leave the level. So I =escaping and then go to read my ?WoR. And it's not there. I guess it got destroyed by those water hounds I "teleported into earlier. I look at my position and suddenly realize I've cornered myself and he is approaching, my back is against the wall. So what am I gonna do? I decide there's not much choice but to hope for the best and I fire my sling at him and remove one bar and then melee. Surprisingly I am winning the battle and it's close, but I take him down a generous buffer of about 40HP (my max is 330 at this point).

So, continue on my merry way, recover a good deal of my HPs when I run into a yellow Hydra. Now I easily crushed a 2 headed Hydra and I didn't consider how much more brutal the yellow one is (I think it is 4 headed?). Well, you'd think all those close calls earlier would learn me, but no. We whack at each other and it's *very* quickly clear I have no chance in hell to win. He's at 70% health and I'm already into low HP warning. I have 30HP, it's over. I look at my inventory again, trying to think of things that could save me. For some reason I didn't gamble on !Healing and decide to read an unknown scroll. But I can't logically back up that choice. I've already ID'd ?Teleportation. But I decide my best chance is to read a single scroll, rather than from a stack (since a stack is more likely to be non-rescuing).

I'm pretty sure I'm doomed, but who knows, maybe the good luck will keep coming? Incredible.

Well, I guess I've been playing this game too much (ya think?), cause I got careless with weapon swaps and FrAct coverage and died to paralysis. But, no troubles, found another early sling of power (+20) and phial. Wondering if I should leave a level I just arrived on (DL32) where I picked up Totila (pConf) near the down stairs. Killed a shadow drake who dropped boots of speed.

I'm wondering if Totlia would give such a high feeling? I'm thinking with its speed and pConf it might. I prolly should just hit the down stairs.

Thanks AH for the name change tip. Here is the dump from that quick winner: http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=19988

I wasn't able to find a way to arrange the ladder by quickest wins. Seems to be arranged by most experience, which is kinda silly, because once you've won the game and dived deep and gotten the best gear below DL100, gaining EXP is easy... and tedious... and pointless.

I did find this winner in 61K turns: http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=16940 They didn't even have rPois!

Wow, Ingwe in 34K turns! http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=19035

EDIT: I was about to leave the level, but the last enemy I deigned to fight before recall, a Deathknight, actually dropped me a wand of TO. Why doth thou tempteth me! A Level 58 eye druj is on the other side of a tiny vault. I can get speed +11 but not sure if he can still double shot me. also not sure if there is anything worthwhile in his half of the vault, seeing as ethereal openings and a bunch of ego weapons were on the other side that I was able to safely clear. On the eye druj side are a main gauche, lance, iron helm and some other weapons. I just picked up Thranduil from a drop, so probably should just go.

Wow, just wow. An almost dead Xaren I forgot about just crushed the wand of TO before I picked it up. Just wow. At least he didn't crush the chest with the longbow of extra might and more bolts. Still, losing the TO makes this whole diving thing much more difficult.

*Don't* use your first wand of TO as a default escape--it is much too valuable for that. Use it to crack vaults.

I use TO only when I really need it, same way I treat all my resources. But, yes, the idea is to have it for vaults. Hopefully I will get another one soon! I do have a ?Banishment, though it's pretty useless against good vaults, since they are packed with Uniques.

                              -----------

Oooh, this is fun: Finally have a chance to get a wand of TO. But Smaug blocks my way to it. Now I could wand to mud through the top there and bypass him, haste self, and bee line to the wand of TO. Or I could Teleport myself and hope I land over there. Kavlax is awake on the western part of the map and already breathed on me twice, nearly killing me and forcing me to use a precious !healing. I think I will beeline it, I have two staves of speed!

Crap, Angband just crashed. I hate replaying levels. It's also unintentional cheating because now I will beeline to the wand. Though, I really should have known it was there all along since I quaffed an !enlightenment early in the level.

Teleportation (of any kind) cannot land you inside of a vault.
