What's with the DL40 character summoning a DL63 character????? Jeez moleez! (Granted I am on DL69 when this happened; but I was kinda counting on things being more or less safe at this current moment in time... now a Great Storm Wyrm is standing in front of my frail character. TO? smite it with great vengence? ?phase door? (still got the speed buff going from last fight at +32).

Morgoth dies now.
Alright, it is time for me to finally face Morgoth in a game that I have played fairly with no dying, no force quitting, no other shenanigans. Fair and square with normal settings 4.0.5.
This is the strongest character I think I've ever had in the game before.
Highlights are: 2 Rings of Power, PDSM. MoD <+2> Extra attacks, (+19, +19) and far more consumables than I need. If I screw this up, that will be really sad. I need to play slow and cautiously and not let my power go to my head!
Interestingly I picked up 2 more rods of healing, Vilya and the mace on DL100 in a 9-9 vault just now. I had fun TOing Morgy out every so often as he'd constantly return as I was dealing with others in the vault.
My plan was to kill all the Uniques before killing him, but I am itching to put this mighty gear to use. Still a few formidable Uniques left: notably R and Q. Not too worried about the Undeads left as I got most of the more threatening ones.
Another thing to note: When I was in the vault, sometimes P would be below me and so I took an opportunity to see the difference between 31 speed and 41 speed by running along the bottom of the vault and see how fast he followed me. There was hardly a noticeable difference when he chased me at 31 speed and 41 speed. I'd say the difference was less than what you notice between speeds 10 and 11. Nevertheless, bringing Cubragol along for the ride.
I found lots of powerful items this game I hadn't seen before, which was cool, including lots of dragon armors (some of speed) and an artifact dragon armor I left behind. And it was cool to finally get my hands on a PDSM that I kept hearing mention in the forums and wondering just how powerful it is.
EDIT: Yay, I won. Now to chase down all the Uniques that M summoned and kill them all.

You know, I sorta regret it after I left the rNether shield at home (which I had just found, and had been looking for). I was looking at the nether damage most monsters deal and it's usually not more than 220. So I decided having the extra +3 damage was better. Also, sometimes only a small amount of the nether damage done gets resisted anyway, but, yeah, maybe it would have been better with the rNether shield. I did take a few 200+ damage nether shots at me.Beginner's Guide to Angband 4.2.3 Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9c9e2wMngM

Thanks, yeah, sure makes things a lot easier.
I have all the luck: read a ?DD which half the time ends me up dead. Now on DL33 with a level feeling 5, uh-oh. Oh, look, treasure feeling 9. So here's hoping it's not a book. Been wondering how I will deal with the monster(s), though. The only monster I can think of that I'll be able to handle is an an Ancient Red Dragon. Other than that, I'd probably have to abandon the mission. Well, an easterling warrior dropped a wand of TO. Really, what are the odds? Still, I have no more !Speed so could easily be beaten to the punch as it were. Still haven't found the treasure room, though.
EDIT: Found the vault: looks like it's Bill. Wonder if his brothers are with him. Cap of telepathy, 9f vault, and a wand of TO. Living the good life.
Also in the vault a mature multi-hued dragon (nativeL38) but I took care of him pretty easily; risked not TOing since I'm somewhat equipped to deal with dragons.
Haha, ripped through an ancient green dragon. Had the CON for his immediate breath after drilling into his compartment (still exploring the vault with a torch). I ?Phased instead of healed. So far found a book (ethereal openings) and a certain weapon I wielded last game all the way up until I finally found a MoD double attacks. This has been the game of the early late game arties.Last edited by Grotug; December 3, 2016, 13:40.Beginner's Guide to Angband 4.2.3 Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9c9e2wMngM

So I dived to DL60. Things were going fine, fiercely smote some dragons. Then a yellow Q summons a couple things. A will o' the wisp gave me hallucinations. I killed it, and then began to fiercely smite an Ethereal Dragon (450dmg around, unless its much less when I'm hallucinating?) Now as I recall, Ethereal dragons aren't really that bad, maybe slightly tougher than normal Ancient dragons. But I kept getting confused. Then I'd quaff !CCW and immediately be confused again, and take 100-200 damage per round. The action dialogue only shows me fighting an ethereal dragon, and yet, once again, I'm on the verge of suddenly being killed. At the end of every one of his turns I was confused. I quickly ran out of !CCW and then my only !healing and then my *!healing*. Even after both fully heals to 436 I'd be down to low 200s at the end of his turn. ... and confused. So I teleported out of there. But I don't understand why the confusion and damage was so persistent. Was it the hallucinations? What should I do when I hallucinate. Should I teleport? Hallucinating is kind of the worst thing. I hate it in Angband as much as in real life.
I'm a space cadet in real life too: keep forgetting to switch my damage ring back after tunnelling; fricking brought to 60 health by a drolem; not because he breathed on me, but because I was smiting him with a ring of digging. /sighLast edited by Grotug; December 3, 2016, 23:49.Beginner's Guide to Angband 4.2.3 Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9c9e2wMngM

Ethereal dragons bite to confuse. Maybe you should have read the combat log.
They're also fast, have pretty powerful melee (that bite is 7d10 and they have two 4d10 claw attacks), and they have enough HP that their light/dark breath attacks can hit the damage cap (200, if I recall correctly). And they can pass through walls. Ethereal dragons are bad news.Comment

Well, I'm still alive but running out of health. I hope some of these dungeons start producing some health again otherwise it's gonna be all !CLW. I have left: 5 !CCW, 1 !healing, 1 !*healing*. Prolly gonna have to TO more than I have been. Kinda boring, but I don't really want to die now.
EDIT: This has been a weird game: found my second rod of trap detection on DL68. Got from drops the Phial and first treasure detection rod on DL60.Last edited by Grotug; December 4, 2016, 01:13.Beginner's Guide to Angband 4.2.3 Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9c9e2wMngM

“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

What Derakon said. Ethereal dragons and the various Titans are very dangerous indeed. When you get hit by one, it's time to quaff !speed then _Teleport out of there--if it doesn't kill you first. (The !speed gives you a better chance with the higher fail rate when confused.)Comment
