1st trip back down after reinventing myself was pretty uneventful.

    3300' LF 4-3

Ran into a named Master Thief(Harowen I think it was).
He dropped Totila and the shield Thorin. Totila is worthless, but carried the shield along....

Gotta say it's pretty nice moving around at a base speed of 23!

This is about as light as I've traveled..almost feel nekkid.

Thanks for all the tips over the last few days~I'll be watching out for high level nether breathers. The only change I made from Vanilla is to turn on monster memory so I can tell a little more about what I'm running into.

@Mudd-- your character is plenty strong to take on the bosses already.

Yeah..I'm headed for lvl98 now....but I'm really in no big hurry.
Most of what I've read indicates I should be taking stairs and reading deep descent as fast as I can at this point. There's even a create stairs spell I noticed, but I probably won't resort to that.

Wouldn't mind taking on a few more uniques along the way.

The uniques show up at 4800' too, but the loot is better. Do keep that in mind

You're deep enough for very nasty monsters to show up. It's not appreciably more dangerous on DL 98 than it is where your @ is at, but, as others have mentioned, the loot is better. The risk/reward balance should tilt you toward descending to DL98 as fast as you can at this point.

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

Yeah, just ran into Master Quualthg or whatever it's called.

It summoned away and I had to TO a few things before it got out of hand and I dropped to the next level. Definitely taking stairs as fast as I run into them now.
Before I left I had taken out at least 4 Great Worms(one was Hellfire,2Law) and when the Nightcrawler showed up I figured it was best to get the hell out of Dodge.

Havn'e been able to devote as much time to the game this week, but I'm diving as fast as I can.

My saving throws are now at 100%. Not sure exactly what kinds of trouble this keeps me out of...blindness, fear, etc? Is there a complete list of things I just don't have to plan around with 100% saving throw?

It protects from paralysis and all status spell attacks (incl mindblasting). It does not protect from status side effects from bites or breaths or "storm" type ball spells. It protects from nexus side effects and (importantly) teleport level.

Down around 4250 now...things are starting to get lively!

2 levels in a row were murderous LF 9....waved at Osse and 2 other uniques as I was taking the stairs.

Deep descent landed me on a cavern level in a small dead end surrounded by 6 time hounds. Had some potions of RLL on me so I duked it out. Detected an Arkenstone a short distance away -Thrain!

Also battled Atlas on this level and got xbow of Cubrigol<SP?> with speed +10.

It kinda sucks for damage, but I'm keeping it as a swap for now. Not sure if I'll ever use it with Belthronding on my back.

I reoutfitted at one point while dropping off some consumnables. Now using Amulet of Weaponmastery, shield of Thorin, Arkenstone of Thrain, and an Elven Cloak of Aman I think it was.

Downward - LVL 98 or bust!!!

ps. with one of the swaps my Saving throw went back to 99% from 100%. Not gonna worry about it for now.

That probably means your wis is down. While 99% saving throw is no cause for concern, positive spellfail should be - make sure your wisdom is 18/200 or higher, for 0% fail.

My Wisdom has never been that high...I think it's 18/90 or 18/100 atm.

No worries about wisdom. Another CL or two will put your save back at 100. WIS matters a lot only if you are a priest/paladin. Don't be to quick to pass up "murderous" levels. They may just be an undead pit or the like, but they may also be a sign of a greater vault. The better vaults (checkerboard, divisi, bubbles) are packed with good stuff.

Hmmm....but everyone says dive! so I've been ignoring the tough looking levels and heading down. Only been slowing down long enough to go pick up easy stuff close by. Osse was on the one bad level with 2-3 other dangerous uniques so I kept going. I am reminded of the quote by the pirate Jack Sparrow... " I love those moments...I like to wave at them as they pass by!"

I know what a checkerboard vault looks like(obvious), but I am not sure what you refer to as a divisi or bubbles. Where can I find examples of these layouts?

I do know what you mean about Greater vaults tho....it was one of those huge vaults that took up over 1/2 of an entire level that gave me most of my latest gear and the stats to start this dive. I think it might have been what you refer to as divisi as there were multiple sections or rooms within the vault. Some rooms had doors and some areas had to be tunnelled into.

The thing I'm really looking for at this point is scrolls of Tele Level. I only have 4-5 and worry about getting into a tight spot without an out. Also curious is I would be better off spamming lvl97 instead of 98 and teleport level might send me to 99 before i really want to go.

Since I seem to be at a point where I could potentially beat Sauron I really don't want to waste too many consummables either, but I will probably hang out and clear level 98 a few time for grins. I beleive there are still a ton of uniques around

They are in vault.txt edit file. Divisi is a little more dangerous. When monsters come pouring down the long hallwaya, teleport the ones you can't kill easily or you may be overwhelmed.

I'm also not real clear on the difference between a pit and a vault.

My guess is a pit is where the monsters are all of the same variety.
