edit. Just found a sling of buckland (+12,+13) <+4,+2,+1). Seems like it would be nice but probably never be better than Belthronding - correct?

and more goodies I'm not sure I can use ..amulet of trickery <+2,+4,+5> +2 dex, stealth, speed; +4searching,+5 infra w/ rpoison and nexus. Think I gotta stick with sustanence though.
=Con +6 ....hadn't seen rings over +5 for a stat before. Can't see swapping out =speed or dmg.
Rings of damage + speed are the classic endgame combo; the only thing that can break in there are rings of power, and sometimes even those arent better.

Trickery is always a keeper; definitely better than sustenance, the only time I use sustenance lategame is when I have neither crown of might nor shield of preservation equipped for meleeing Morgoth. Trickery sustains dex, and the only other sustain I really care about before M is strength.

        That's what I suspected. Thank's for confirming!

You do sometimes need a Ring of CON, and in extreme cases I could see a mage with exceptionally bad luck having to wear a Ring of INT, but yeah, Ring of Speed and Ring of Power is a classic endgame combination.

It depends on class. For warrior RoCON is almost never endgame (except potentially in no-artifact game.) for Mage, it is almost always required, possibly with exception of HT, where RoINT might be more likely.

Found the Long bow of Bard.

I don't understand the (x5) on this bow. Belthronding gives me far more damage when compared to Bard for me, but has only (x3).

I assume I can leave Bard behind, but a lot of older discussions make it sound like Bard is more powerful than it appears to me. Was it changed at some point?

Belthronding gets 2 shots per turn, but does less damage per shot. Bard saves on ammo.

                  Hmm.
I am not doubting you as I know you are correct. Just trying to understand!

Equiped bow and looked at avg dmg/round for a frost branded arrow.
Belthronding - 529 for nonfrost resistant and 264 for others.
                  Bard - 327 and 204

Avg dmg/round numbers suggest Belthronding is better.

I get it now. Had to type it out to see. I will get more dmg output per round, but I will shoot more arrows doing it. Still, the name of the game is kill 'em quick for me, so Bel wins. From what I read in other threads, this might be different for a Ranger with the extra shots.

Round is ambiguous. In this case it means "complete player turn" rather than "shot". Divide Belthronding's damage by 2 and you will see it conforms to the arithmetic of 3*(arrow damage + arrow bonus + bow bonus)

                      Yep, I understand!

Ji Indur Dawndeath just dropped Mithril Plate of Celeborn and an Executioners Sword of Gondolin.

Found the Mattock of Nain on this level too.

In real life I'm an inventory manager. Figures this game makes me sweat inventory more than anything!

Nain is probably junk. So is the sword. You want to focus on weapons that can dish out damage to Sauron (evil, acid) and Morgoth (evil). Aim for roughly 500/turn with max blows. Yes there are weapons worth keeping that are more suitable for non-boss monsters, but they are replaceable and no big deal if you lose them. Nain in particular is good for characters without max stats who are desperate for CON and STR.

Just cleared out a massive Vault on level 65.

Really starting to depend on Spellbooks a lot more for a lot of stuff.
Even dropped my scrolls of satisfy hunger. Is it wise to depend on spells for this?

Saruman, Fundin Bluecloak, Ji Indur DawnDeath, Omrax the Eye tyrant,Baphomet, Shelob, and several other beasts all put away.

This is going to be fun trying to carry up.....

Amulet of Weaponmastery (ended up wearing at one point cuz my strength got knocked down - but may go back to trickery?)

There's also a scroll of banishment,*destruction*,and potion of life laying around
                          Swapped my =speed 7 for a =speed 8

                          Updated the ladder http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=19675

Starting to feel confidant....so I'll probably die soon <grin>

Wanted to wear those Boots of Speed bad, but I lose hitpoints from 753 to 664. Not good. I think my base speed before I picked up extra armors and such was around 13 at this point w/o the boots +10.

Tomorrow I'll take a closer look and see if anything make sense.
Too much stuff to sort thru tonite.

pStun is very rare, the Crown is a good find, even if you lose telepathy, there are some weapons/amulets that give ESP that you can swap for.

Yes it's safe to rely on spellbooks for food, just make sure you don't start fainting and find yourself out of mana with no time to rest and try again.

Pconf and max CON are better than rDark.

Yes, you have Elros, get sh**tload of hit points, speed +20 and as much damage as possible. You need res base, poison and disench; try to get pconf and pblind, but dont worry if you cant; everything else is luxury.
