Just found the Battle Axe of Balli Stonehand on the same level as the Balrog.

    Updated the ladder...

That might make give more options on switching up gear next time in town..

I'm hitting the sack and leaving the Balrog for tomorrow.

Balli isn't great for melee. Only one useful slay, and not all that great damage. Calris is significantly better. I'd stick to the rapier for walking around (it doesn't weigh much) and Calris for big fights.

Estie suggested Eorlingas was an upgrade....if I can lift it. LOL.

Apart from Eorlingas doing the most listed damage, it also has +2 speed; even if that only amounts to +1 because of heavy weight, at +8 base speed that matters. Eorlingas is a nobrainer imo, and with 450 vs evil I wouldnt bother with Calris swap.

Ok, you talked me into it.

I will lose a few hitpoints from Con, not sure how much.

As far as items at home, probably going to drop Harradekket, the crossbow of Haradrim, and Raal's to make space. The Main Gauche of Azaghal is useless but it has fire immunity-drop or keep?

There are several armors and shields that I will probably never use too, but not sure which to toss first. Really would like to be using the MHDSM of Craftmanship with Poison Resistance and the Shield of Preservation. PRobably end up tossing the Metal Brigandine.

Should I be keeping the scrolls and staff of destruction?
Already thru out some items with earthquake.

Scroll if destruction is important--guaranteed escape and necessary vs. Morgoth. Staff is useful but not vital. All your other decisions are OK, except you are carrying way too much stuff. 80lbs over weight is really hurting you. +10 base speed is way more important. Leave most !Heal etc at home. (35 is more than is even found in many games)

That's funny. I have 17 !*healing* already at home. Started carrying the !heal because of no space at home. Was considering not carrying around !ccw anymore.

My play style has led me to have a tough time dropping some things.

Rods for example. I suspect I rely on them too much for some things but haven't been able to let them go. 20 Rods of fire bolt and 24 of curing.
Should I be dealing with stun and confusion another way? As for the fire bolt ...I really really hate vampire's<grin>.

As I get deeper I simply don't know what to expect. I have no idea what end or even late mid game looks like.

Hey, I know I am probably doing many things inefficiently. More experienced players would probably have taken this character to the end already without much difficulty. But I am learning and you folks have been VERY helpful.
                Thank you!

Well, !CCW works! I drop rods of curing once I have enough CCW not to have to hoard them (by then, I tend to resist a lot of the effects anyway so the need for them is reduced). And seriously, 20 rods of firebolt!! I guess if I had that big a stack I'd probably hold onto them too! :-)

There is NO wrong way to play (as long as you're still having 'FUN', of course.)

Fun is the name of the game!

!CCW it is...the rods of curing will go bye bye. I've been too much of a pack rat with healing and have been leaving lots of ccw behind in the dungeon anyway.

You know what's really funny? I already trimmed those rods of fb once and threw out 10 fb and 5 curing a few levels ago. Just couldn't part with them all<grin>.

Lucky I'm not this a big a packrat in real life.

Once you have a good bow and especially with Tenser, you can do significantly more damage with archery. Damage rods are only middling powerful (except drain life)

                        And the Balrog is dead!

                        It was boring...

Dug into the vault and TO'd him away. Took my time clearing the vault and wasn't much.....but found a copy of Resistances&Scarab. What luck!

Without that I might have opted out. So I went hunting and found a lesser titan along the way....who gave me more problems than the Balrog eventually did with it's summons in an open room.

Finally found the Balrog and !speed and the spell resist fire got me prepped.

Fired arrows down a hallway. A summoned Marilith was about the worst he could do. Anticlimactic really.

Nothing in the drop worth fighting over either. Nothing with an ego even.

I agree with you here......arrows seem a little scarce at times tho!
Might be cuz I was ignoring the 0,0 ones tho. I take it I can make ammo better with Tensers....

Re-outfitted with Eorlingas instead of Bali Stonehand and my HP went from 853 to 710 - ouch.

Speed is at 10 though and I can get it to 12 dropping the Rods.

                            Gonna give it a go.....

You can make ammo MUCH better with Tensers. The brand spell gives Fire/Cold/Venom brand and roughly (+5,+5) bonus for free. It is a huge, huge spell.

Edit: And yeah, a level 41 character with max stats should roll over the Balrog of Moria. By and large you can only afford a limited number of risky fights in a game. Your character could go much, much deeper with reasonable safety

Been trying out the brand. Am I right you can only brand ammo that has no prior brand?

edit. Just found a sling of buckland (+12,+13) <+4,+2,+1). Seems like it would be nice but probably never be better than Belthronding - correct?

and more goodies I'm not sure I can use ..amulet of trickery <+2,+4,+5> +2 dex, stealth, speed; +4searching,+5 infra w/ rpoison and nexus. Think I gotta stick with sustanence though.
=Con +6 ....hadn't seen rings over +5 for a stat before. Can't see swapping out =speed or dmg.
