Respect - dunno why people play roguelikes in any other way. The fun is in those days of learning.

I don't know whether or not there is such a thing as a "power dragon" enemy. It makes sense that there would be if there's mail, but I've never seen one. This is the first time I've found the mail, and yeah. This is not coming off any time soon.

Still going strong here too, though! In spite of talking about how easy this run is, haha.

Power dragons exist in several variants. In O they breathe more or less everything, summon dragons, appear with dragons as escorts and can tunnel through walls. I always found it annoying that V had scales from a monster that doesn't exist. I mean, sure, extinction happens, but it doesn't feel right.

In Vanilla the Power Dragon mail is based on the Great Wyrms of Many Colours which more or less can breath everything and are immensely upgraded versions of the Ancient Multi-hued Dragons.

GWoMC just has the base elements + poison. Great Wyrms of Power don't exist in Vanilla, as noted, but many variants have seen fit to add them.

Side note: Power Dragon Scale Mail used to provide resistance to every element possible; now it's missing nexus and nether (it's basically balance DSM + multihued DSM + Pseudo DSM). IMO this is a bug. Can we please get it fixed?

I have always wondered why anyone would make a "resist all except nexus" item. I approve of changing it to "resist all elements", which means it should probably stop protecting from confusion.

If there were dragon extinction in Angband, I would bet it would not be power dragons that would go extinct Now, the poor golds and greens, maybe....

Would it not then need to be even more rare, though? Even as it is, just find another good artifact or two and you're completely covered.

Also curious- has there ever been resistance to things like water, raw mana, etc? They don't even show up as possible resistances on the character sheet, if I remember right.

Mana is unresistable. If I remember right, the "water" is a combination of two (I don't remember which ones) elements to get resist (and the resist is only for the effects, not the damage). I could be wrong.

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

None of the "high" elements can be resisted damage-wise. You can acquire protections from some of their effects, e.g. pStun will protect you from the stunning caused by plasma attacks, and pConf from the confusion caused by water attacks. But there is no resistance (or combination of resistances) that gives protection from the attack itself. This is a good thing: the player should never feel like they have protection from everything, as it just leads to complaints when they die anyway.

Its rarity didn't decrease when it lost nexus/nether resist, so it shouldn't increase when it gets them back. Power DSM is one of those "once every 100 runs" types of item; it should be amazing.

The bronzes went extinct . And good riddance: breathing confusion? Ugh, horrible.

I was suitably amazed last month when I got one.

Well, I had so much fun with Dwarf.
Somewhere on level 86 I get SO CONFIDENT, that kept my finger on the keyboard and missed two chaos breaths from Jabberwock.
Rookie mistake, overconfidence (1000 HP, +26 perm speed, ~200 AC, Narya, stats maxed, what could kill me?

Started over, get to dl 41 in just 2 hours of play
That is the thing with my favorite character - I do not mind starting over, still having fun.

Question about fighting Morgoth. Two options here: bows or melee. If I choose melee, will he stun me? Should I hold on to Crown of Serenity?

He can cause stunning just like any big-melee enemy can cause stunning, but he isn't unusually proficient at it like Grand Master Mystics are. Just chug a healing potion when you get stunned. I mean, if you don't have anything better to do with your head slot then Serenity isn't an awful choice, but it's by no means required and you'll probably find something better to use.

Wow, cool! I didn't know it was that rare- found it on level 36, too, so I've been sitting pretty for a while now.

Man, sorry you died. Sometimes I insta-restart just to keep my momentum going, but a lot of times I don't feel like touching it for a week or so after a tragic death.

I usually want to jump right back in to the fray and find and take revenge on the monster type that killed me. So this time, it's grave wights. Grave wights! Can't remember the last time one of those got me. I was clearing out a graveyard in my usual style, and somehow (I swear I was hasted) a grave wight got a double move on me, and cast its cause wounds spell two moves in a row for close to max damage each time (thanks, RNG!). Gnome mage still had flea-level HP at that point. Next time around, I cleared out the next graveyard via a hockey-stick and toyed with the grave wights with magic missiles before finally fire bolting their undead asses into oblivion.
