I'd like to see Feanorian lanterns or lamps. They seem to be available in ToME and some *bands.

Sometimes it can last forever until the Phial shows up. Feanorian lamps don't need oil and could free the slot earlier if they were not too rare.

Thank you very very much. Makes it much easier to keep track of requests. (Some of these were already being considered before people brought them up, too.)

I'd advise against putting ToME 2's light source glut in Angband.

Let a few of the lanterns that you stumble over in the dungeon be Feanorian, may be 10% or such.

Requesting ToME/S/O type savefile menus. Having to use a command-line option to select which savefile to load sucks badly.

To bring up something from earlier in the thread: When I first started playing Angband I really wanted to be able to get my money back from thieves, but now I agree with what petemack said that you shouldn't be able to get stolen money back. What I would like to see instead is a limit on how much thieves can steal. Low level thieves like the urchins, squint-eyed rogues and scruffy looking hobbits should only be able to steal a certain amount (as in less than 1000 gold), then novice rogues would have a considerably higher limit, bandits a bit higher than novice rogues, and the master rogues, master thieves, and stealing uniques would be the only ones with no limit on how much they can steal.
                  anyone agree?

About Smeagul: personally I think he should be completely redone, made tougher and given other abilities instead of stealing gold. Right now, his abilities don't fit his character well at all. But as he is so low-level now, he should also have a limit on stealing gold maybe the same as the novice rogue. Smeagul can be just too annoying, especially when I'm playing a race with no infravision. I think it would make more sense if he stole items rather than gold (including worn rings..). That could make him more annoying, but it would fit his character much better, and that aspect at least would be less annoying.

Without SI/infra Smeagol is annoying enough, I think.
If he could steel items he would discourage new players and even experienced players starting a new char.

This has to be done carefully though - there are issues with how the O one works in windows when you move files around (unless I broke it some other way )

You could do this more simply by just loading the last save file, if the player presses any key or clicks in the opening screen.

Works well for me. Might still have this problem with moving files around though...

I meant making Smeagul steal items as part of completely redoing that unique. I'd make someone like Bill Ferny the new level 3 unique and make Smeagul appear a bit later in the game. Smeagul needs to be redone and not just tweaked, IMO.

Would still be nasty, if he turns up deeper and steals RoSI.

EXactly. Smeagol needs to have some ability that makes him nasty, he should not be a weakling. Of course there should be some limitation even to this, maybe that weilded artifacts can't be stolen. He should also be called Gollum. Frodo and Sam were the only ones who ever learned his real name, to everyone else he was Gollum.

I was thinking the same thing just recently. I'd much rather see him called Gollum than Smeagol. I'll probably edit my monsters file to do that, in fact.
