    Ver 3.09 to?

I started playing again and noticed that I was playing Van 3.09 instead of the 3.2.0 that I was previously playing.

    Questions:

If I upgrade now, will I lose the character I am currently playing, or is there something I must do first?

If I do upgrade can I go directly to 3.3 or 3.2? How?

Do I need to do anything to preserve monster/object memory?

    Thanx again...

I don't know if the savefiles are backwards-compatible, but the easiest way is to make a copy, then try it and see what happens.

Monster memory is preserved in the savefile, so if the save transfers then so will your monster memory...and if it doesn't, then the memory won't either.

You can't go directly to 3.3. I think you'd have to import a 3.0.9 savefile into 3.1.0, then maybe 3.1.2, then 3.2. After that you might be able to import it into 3.3, I'm not sure. It's not recommended that you move active characters between versions, though: you're generally better off finishing off/dying in one version and moving the savefile along if you want to keep monster memory.
takkaria whispers something about options. -more-

Please remind me how to import...

I don't know what platform you're on, but you just have to find the old savefile, in lib/save of your old angband directory, and load it normally.

Windows 7 for platform. I was previously using 3.2, which I liked because of the quiver. What are the differences between 3.2 and 3.3, and 3.2 and 3.4?

A lot. I would skip 3.3 and 3.4 and go directly to nightly version of 3.5.

In 3.4 it is quite hard to find good items compared to 3.2, you might actually like 3.5 more (for several reasons).

Here is the release page for 3.4.1, and there are links on it to the release pages of the versions you mention; these pages have changelists.

Next 3.09 question- I just got a Holy Avenger (yay!) but I can't tell how much damage I can do with it. Is this a feature that was not implemented in 3.09, or do I need a scroll of *Identify*? (I was planning on keeping that for artifacts...)

This. There has been a lot of interface improvement since 3.0.9.

I do not understand what "this" is. I assume you were trying to import a link.

I was going to post a dump but it failed. Is there anything special in name, etc., that I need to do?

What he meant was that weapon damage display was added post-3.0.9. As for the dumps, afraid I can't help you there. Sorry.

Make sure you are attempting to upload the .txt file from the user folder and not a .prf file or your save file. I've made that mistake before, and it took me several attempts before realizing I was trying to upload the save file.
