If *Identify* scrolls exist, then ID-by-use isn't implemented in your version, I'm pretty sure. There was a gap between the removal of one and the introduction of the other (during which you just used normal Identify for everything).
But even though 'identify by use' is not working will the immunity to fire work (it doesn't say anything) or will I need the *Identify* to turn on the fire immunity?
I have killed Sauron, but not Vecna or Gothmog. I have gone to the 100th level, seen
the big M, but did not engage. I think I need more speed. Cubrogol would be the obvious
answer, but any better ring or footwear would do. Suggestions?
So ami I too slow or what? I think the other time I was able to use a permanent wall (vault) to restrict M's movement. Maybe he just seems scarier in 3.0.9b compared to 3.2.0
So I found another RoS +10 and am using both of them instead of one and Narya. I went
down to the 100th level, saw Morgoth, fought a little bit, then he summoned a bunch of undead, so I used word of Destruction. They left, but now I can't seem to find Morgoth. Will he show up eventually, or do I need to go back to 99th level and go back down or what?
I am pretty sure that destruct will blast him off the level if he gets caught in it. You have to regen the level.
I believe it's customary to TO Morgoth before destructing his summons, that way you keep him on the level while clearing out the dudes. Not sure if this was the same in 3.0.9 though.
Glaurung, Father of the Dragons says, 'You cannot avoid the ballyhack.'
debo's right -- Morgoth is not immune to Word of Destruction. He could eventually respawn on the level if you wait long enough, but it's simpler to just generate a new level. As far as I'm aware this has always been the case.
