The deadliest unique in the game, by a huge margin is, without any doubt....

    @!

EDIT: Come to think of it, that might not be true. RNG might give @ a run for his money.
“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

If I can't afford a bow, I always take 10 or so flasks of oil for emergencies like that. !Hero helps make sure it doesn't go to waste. Mostly I don't end up using it, but it's good insurance until a wand of wonder, a bow, etc.

Bullroarer I avoid killing if at all possible. If I meet him the first time, he will drop a few armours +x and probably heavy weapons (+y, +z); if I leave him for level 50 or so, I will more likely get artifacts and elvenkind.

Well if you can avoid him, that's great. But only Mages and sometimes Rangers are likely to have Detect Monsters at his native depth.

I always buy as many as I can carry without being burdened when playing any melee-weak class. As I pick things up, if I haven't used enough of them already, I simply dispose of a few. They allow early mages and priests to take out Grip and Fang, and Bullroarer, even at plvl 1.

Sure. But the number I can usually afford is around a dozen.

I cannot reliably make a top 5 list yet but I'll try list some beyond level 20:

Kavlax: I don't know how much damage can its Gravity breath do but that is the reason to stay out of its sight unless I have > +19 speed and 500 HP.

Waldern: Double whirlpool when hasting got down, almost got my priest that had very few close calls before and after that.

                    Gorlim: Self-explanatory.

Arien: Shows up pretty early. Both times I met Arien, used several consumables.

Lerny Hydra: Early appearance, barely worth fighting.

Elements with no resist (Gravity, Time, Plasma) are limited to 150 breath damage. It's not the gravity that kills you. It's being slowed, then getting hammered by additional breaths.

A very good thing to know. Thank you Pete!
