I get to 500' below CLVL 5 ^.^
I *will* clear levels, even if I don't want to.
I rarely ever find anything close to FA *or* any useful resistance.

First up, stop clearing levels!
I really started improving when I made my goal with gnome mages, to reach 1000' before being able to cast ID. On my first dive if possible.
Now it is routine, and my problem is getting to 2000' given that having dived to those depths that quickly I probably don't have both FA AND SI. Let alone rBase. but I am certainly getting to DL40 well before CL40 (more like CL25 or so I think?)Leave a comment:

It will help when I ever reach -TO, temporary resistances and speedLeave a comment:

Something that I've found that helps to keep mages alive is to be really paranoid about everything. If a monster is capable of doing 25% dmg on you in a single round at a distance (you should probably be fighting him from a distance) bail, come back and use 'teleport other'.
If you're fighting a group of monsters and they manage to lower your hp below 50%, bail, rest, then come back. At least, that's what I've done. If it's a powerful elemental monster like an Ancient Green Dragon, I wouldn't even consider taking it on unless you have both a permanent and temporary form of elemental resistance, and a temporary +10 boost of speed in case things go badly.
I hope this helps.Leave a comment:

I know I'm diving too slow, but I love clearing levels =C
1050' for this one. My absolute record, as well as a record in most stupid death.Leave a comment:

Code:#.### # Wall #.### . Floor #;.@. @ Player ##### ; Rune of Protection
As early as dlevel 40, both for mages and priests.Leave a comment:

Ah well. I could've used the rune =C
Now that I'm dead I see a lot of options which would've helped me survive. But no, I stupidly Phase Doored around.
Quylthulgs summon? Then I've been lucky three times =D
When do the first dungeon books appear? I found one (most probably out of depth) for priests (sold).Leave a comment:

You got away very lightly! If they see you, they will summon all sorts of nasties around you. Beware the Qs...Leave a comment:

I found my first dragon scale mail ever!
Too bad it's as a mage.
I think I'll drag it around anyways...
I found a slimy pit =C
Smart enough to avoid it, but sad to find it's the source of the superb feeling.
I found a ?Rune of Protection. What does it do? I don't want to waste it, maybe it's useful.
I met my first Quylthulg. What are these things, anyways? Invisible, no attack. Killed by one Acid Bolt.
Died, but this was my by far best character. She should be the #1 on my ladder.Last edited by Narvius; June 24, 2008, 14:23.Leave a comment:

Polymorph is absolutely awesome. I guess Mana's ready to get her own dump now.
[Edit]
Here she is - http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=7782

that belongs here (bad advice thread)
The fact that they were becoming more and more agitated as the 'shroom shrieked would only have made that escape more the sweeter!Leave a comment:

This also includes confusion. Your staff fail rate will be high while confused, but you will be unable to read scrolls or cast spells at all.Leave a comment:

LOL!
The situation: Level 7 Mage, ?WoR down, appear next to Brodda & a mob of Novice Warriors. A few turns later I'm low on HP, fleeing through a tunnel. A dead end! Damn! The last desperate action: Zap an un-ID'ied rod at the nearest novice warrior (Brodda was somewhere in the middle of the army, detection said) - it turned out to be a -Polymorph! And guess what it morphed the enemy into? A shrieker mushroom patch! YAY! Saved! They can't walk over it!
[Edit]
-Polymorph is my new friend - baby dragons are no problem now!Leave a comment:
