    The trouble with tilesets

I'm really wanting to make a custom tileset. But I'm not having much luck. I tried editing an excisting one by simply replacing some sprites. But when I try it out Angband says it can't find that tileset. Hm, what gives?

From what ive seen of tilesets, they are completely fugly compared to the ascii. Which is one hell of a trick to pull off.

The newest tilesets aren't bad compared to ascii. I just don't like them because they don't "group" properly under color/letter combination.

NPP's 32x32 tile set is new and very nice... if you can tolerate tiles. Then there are Shockbolt's tiles. Certainly not "fugly. The tilesets and really limited by the Angband engine. I think they look about as good as they can given current tileset support.

Hands up - I use tiles.
                  Now then, I've said it.
Does that make me a newb?
I used to use ascii, but shockbolt works just great for me now.
                  I don't think I could go back...

As an aside, my 6 year-old son has two characters, one on cheat death, one normal. His normal character just made it to dlvl 15 (dynasty number XXII), and he was so proud. I'm pretty sure there would be no chance of him doing so with ascii.

The great thing about angband is that everyone can tailor their game, and if that means I like using tiles, I'm not embarrassed!

Don't let your children play Angband. Next thing you know they'll kill Bolg on level 11 and say "What's Balance Dragon Scale Mail?" and you'll have real trouble not swearing. Hypothetically.

                      Very funny!

His best find so far was probably a rod of fire bolts on dlvl2.
He didn't realise what he had, of course, just wondered around the dungeon zapping everything he saw (using the keymap he asked me to set up), unique or otherwise.
It was quite a shock, a dozen levels later, when monsters were able to survive it!
