I believe that in Vanilla, protections are universal -- it is impossible to be paralyzed if you have FA, to be stunned if you have protection from stunning, etc. This isn't necessarily the case in variants though.

Protections are universal, resistances affect only the side-effects from that particular element. Not sure about hallucination though, resist chaos gives you immunity to that against any source I think.

I just checked the source, and indeed protection from stunning now protects against physical attacks that stun. This makes grand master mystics *much* less dangerous now...

If you manage to get that protection. It is rare in equipments you actually would like to wear. IIRC only Gondor and Numenor has it from standard artifacts, and only ego that has it as standard is serenity. Sound no longer protect you against any other stun source than just sound.
