I'd just like to point out that /var/empty needs to be, d'oh, empty, and unwritable. Some high unixy arcana depends on that.

You should go figure out why your user account is having /var/empty as a homedir... And what user account are you running angband under, in fact.

"C" then "f". Then you have a file in /lib/user which contains the chardump.

You can either copy&paste contents here (put it between (CODE) (/CODE), brackets instead of parenthesis), or you can post it in ladder and give us link to that. If you copy&paste use some text-editor that can handle ASCII without changing the format, IE. no formatting or fonts.

Quoting an old post here- I'd like some advice and was trying to post to the ladder. I'm trying to create a char dump in 3.1.2, OSX 10.5.8, but when I look in the contents of the Angband package for /lib/user, there's no /user. Spotlight can't find the file either, although Angband says it was successfully created. What am I missing?

The location of the dump is OS-dependent. In OSX, you want to look in /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/Angband. Nothing is saved within the Angband app itself.

Any general advice- a few things I'm thinking about...

Aglarang + rFlames is probably as good as I'm going to get for a while, right?

Arvedui or GoldDSM?

Is the helm of seeing worth carrying around for rBlind if I've got a helm of telepathy?

Is there a point where the stealth gear will not be worth it (for example, cloak of protection for rShards vs Elven Cloak? so far it's nice being able to tiptoe around ancient dragons when I have to.

I know I can go deeper, but I keep hitting excellent or superb level feelings.

We now use "private" user directories. On unices this is ~/.angband/Angband, but I'm not sure about OSX. Someone will know.
