Yeah, but it's only a min 1... and the dex is enough for sting to give me another last hit... the 8th.

Question : when i have 18/*** in a stat, it's at it's max maximum, as in, can't be improved through equipment further?Originally posted by DerakonSadly, every character ever created in Angband was given a magnifying glass by their eccentric uncle for their fifth birthday...Comment

18/*** (aka 18/220) is the maximum use you can get out of a stat. However, if your stat is drained, having extra can come in handy.a chunk of Bronze {These look tastier than they are. !E}

Yes. Stat itself gets increased in the background so you have safety-buffer for stat-drains, but 18/220 is max for effects and it is shown as 18/***. That is actually 18+22 = 40 for all purposes, so I suggest that we lose the "18/xxx" marking and switch to double-digit for stats. That last x in xxx does nothing.Comment

18/220. That's the limit. Those last two points have a meaning. Sometimes a big meaning, like with STR, where those two last points give you +4 damage, making gauntlets of Power +5 sometimes better than Cambeleg and Fingolfin (thought even with (+5,+5) (+5) it loses to Fingolfin +10 to_hit by two points at best case scenario).Comment

The difference between 18/220 STR and 18/200 STR is at least an order of magnitude less than the difference between 18/200 and 18/190 for a pure spellcaster's spellstat. It is generally much less than the difference between 18/200 CON and 18/190, but for some classes with MoD it might make a difference in #blows. It is usually much less than the difference in a relevant point of DEX.
The reason I care is about figuring out how to swap items to rekit. If it says 18/*** I don't know whether I can switch items losing +3 in the process without adding up the plusses to figure out what the precise number is.
I really hate the *** thing.Comment

That's a tiny difference.

Seriously - there are way more good ideas on Oook than people to code them, so the more people who do that, the better (all hail Ewert, Who Was First). And the danger of giving you svn access no longer exists: you can be as radical as you like, and we can pick and choose which commits to merge ..."Been away so long I hardly knew the place, gee it's good to be back home" - The BeatlesComment

At the moment, I am thinking about things no one else cares about, so my first changes may seem rather stran
[edit] But I wouldn't put in code reverting ***. I complained when it was discussed, opinion was for it, and I just gotta move on. However, that won't stop me from complaining now and then.Comment

Hm, this should work: once a stat reaches 18/220, change the display of its name. E.g. "STR" in white becomes "*STR*" in green. That should provide a visual indication that some kind of threshold has been reached without blanking out how much of an overachievement the stat is. It should also be pretty easy to implement; maybe I should install Git on this computer...Comment

It already does change from "STR" to "STR!" It goes from "STR" to "Str" and "STR!" to "Str!" when drained. Maybe if you add color like you said: Green for maxed, plain white while normal and yellow when drained.Comment
