Is it a bug, or a misfeature?

I guess one of the problems with not building a native Ubuntu package, is that attempting to do otherwise (as I did above) can result in corrupting your entire installation, as the attempt to get stuff directly from the debian repository ends up overlaying some packages, and Ubuntu's package manager then tells you that everything is corrupted, damaged, etc, and refuses to run anymore.

Now... normally I'd be bent, but I've been meaning to do a full re-install of my OS anyway, since I've been wanting two move from 32bit to 64bit.. so I suppose now's as good a time as any...

You make my point well: if you check out svn, it lives in its own working directory (which you choose), and it doesn't touch anything else on the system (providing you build --with-no-install). You can install all the deps in their native Ubuntu versions, and your system is a lot better off than trying to install a handcrafted package of any sort.

Hello, I use this thread to report something strange: My character in Angband sees thing I cannot see. After casting Detect treasure, I see an unidentified Scroll in the list of items, but I myself cannot see it on the map. I tried to toggle the option hide_squelchable but it has no effect. I cannot find it on the map (really, I looked thoroughly). What's going on?

Perhaps it is offscreen? If I'm not mistaken, many of the detection spells can detect things that are far enough away to be off the screen, especially if you're playing with large fonts or tiles!
You read the scroll labeled NOBIMUS UPSCOTI...
You are surrounded by a stasis field!
The tengu tries to teleport, but fails!

You are right I did not look as thoroughly as I thought. I was offscreen. Nevermind.

I've noticed this too, and I think that there's more to it than the item being off screen. I've come to the conclusion, based on nothing, that if something is right on the edge of the detection area, it will appear on the item list, but may not show on screen. (or maybe I'm wrong)

I added a change to the item list to give the distance and direction. So if it is in the item list, you really ought to be able to find it easily. That is, if you are playing the nightlies .. It might have been changed after 3.1.2.v2.
